Anthony De Longis appreciation?

Good evening.

I wonder: despite the mixed-to-negative feelings fans have about the Kazon (i.e., being perceived as a subpar imitation of Klingons or as a race with squandered potential), has Anthony De Longis' portrayal of Maje Culluh generally been met with approval...perhaps even praise? Looking back, I recognize that the man genuinely had presence.

Well, this may be TMI but my mother frothed over two people from Star Trek: Gul Dukat and Maje Cullah.

I think that says a lot about her proclivities, but she liked him.

And for me I didn't feel that way about him, but yes he was a good guest star. Worked well with Mulgrew I felt. He was an arse, but an arse done well.

I considered how interesting it would have been to see Culluh interact with Dukat; after all, they both fulfilled similar-ish roles. By the way, there is one good reason as to why the Maje should have been brought back for future Star Trek series.

I like Culluh! A good villain.

Interesting that both Culluh and Dukat are mentioned here. Two of the best villains in Star Trek!

Culluh had a few cringe moments, but mostly he was a great villain.

I might try to convince him to be First Officer in the new VOY game coming out.

He was a pretty good villain for the first two seasons. When he slapped Capt Janeway though he sealed his fate.

As far as we know, the leader of the Nistrim is still kicking...along with a half-Cardassian offspring.

De Longis played Culluh to perfection. The first moment you saw him you knew he was an asshole whose face screamed out for a punch. He just had that sort of presence. I recall thinking on original broadcast that Janeway wasn't going to escape his attentions unscathed. His was an immediately memorable character brought to menacing life with just the right amount of investment. Good call casting Anthony De Longis.
