Anthony Ainley

I really like Mr. Ainley's Master, when I watch John Simm's Master all I can think of is his character on the cop show I think was called "Life on Mars". I wish Derek Jacobi would have stayed on longer as the Master, I his few minutes of being the Master over Mr. Simm's over the top portrayal.

Here is a link on Mr. Ainley: http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Anthony_Ainley

Delgado was sinister, methodical, and simply one of the best Masters we've seen so far. Ainley was sinister, campy, and a bit OTT. Were either performance simply down to the man?
I've read comments in some of the behind-the-scenes material which suggested that Ainley once gave an incredibly intense, serious delivery of his lines and was asked to do a retake by the gallery "and go more OTT". How verifiable that is, I'm not sure.
I've heard this multiple times specifically in regards to Planet of Fire.

Completely agree. Jacobi was brilliant and should have stayed on as the new series Master for some time.

To me, Simm's Master is like early daffy-duck - completely lunatic and over the top. I mean that not in a good way.

I'll take early Daffy Duck over later Daffy Duck any day. As for the Master... I like 'em all, but Delgado is the best.

There's no Master I dislike. Roger Delgado, of course. Geoffrey Beevers has such a delicious voice. Anthony Ainley just threw himself into the part. Eric Roberts is just ridiculous, but in an awesome way. Derek Jacobi is Derek Jacobi. John Simm was a brilliant counterpoint to David Tennant. As far as I am concerned, no one has ever botched up being the Master.

(I'm going to admit that I have no memory of Peter Pratt's performance.)

I completely agree, even Eric Roberts who I didn't like before but do now.

He's fairly good, but I'm also distracted by the vast difference in makeup and costume from Geoffrey Beevers. I know some people hated Beevers' makeup but I loved it.

How can you not love Eric Roberts?

"The Asian child..."
"Bruce, you're sick!"

"Did she kiss as good as me?"
"As well as you."

"THIS IS AN AMBULANCE!"

"You want me to kill you?"

Quite easily.

The Master doesn't go around people breaking people's necks - fire arms yes, his TCE yes - but physical killing violence - not his style.

Sounds like a JNT'ism to me.
