The success of the Star Wars: From a Certain Point of View (ESB edition coming soon!) and the POTA Tales from the Forbidden Zone show they can be highly successful.
Why doesn't S&S advertise on Trekbbs? I've gotten "targeted" ads from everything from gay cruises to coonskin caps (seriously) but I don't recall ever getting an ad for a Trek book.
Because each new book notification, and each new review, appear as links at right, under the heading "Trek Today News".
I have that one. It's a mixed bag like most anthologies, but there are some good ones in it. Its companion volume The Further Adventures of the Joker is notable to Trek Lit fans for containing the only published non-Trek story written by former Trek editor Marco Palmieri.
I wonder if they published a new anthology under the Short Treks banner it'd do a little better? It's literally the same thing in prose format.
I'm still annoyed that we didn't get a 10th anniversary anthology in 2011, and I doubt we'll get a 20th next year.It will probably never happen, but I would be down for a group of Enterprise stories (Nights Not in Sickbay or something).
I love anthologies. I'm currently reading Tales From the Dominion War (Hi @KRAD) and enjoying it so much, that I'm considering buying Prophecy and Change and read it in synch with my DS9 rewatch.
I'm kind of worried about what else I've missed.
Talking of anthologies in general, is it okay to keep the topic broad to include anthologies outside the scope of Star Trek anthologies? Like the media Tie-In novels thread?
For we literary Doctor Who fans anthologies are nary a problem. In fact we are well served by anthologies with several short story collections being published every year. The BBC also seems to operate a fairly good 'hands off' approach to fan anthologies and fan literature in general. This doesn't really happen with Trek though.
Given how much Trek we have available across multiple licensees, a cross-licensee effort might garner some sales. Something like a Strange New Worlds anthology tie-in to the new series that had a Star Trek Online tie-in story, a Star Trek Adventures RPG tie-in story, Star Trek Timelines tie-in, veteran Star Trek novelists, and a couple new voices. It'd take some coordination and a Good Idea, but it could be done if the right people put in the elbow grease to make it happen and if they could convince the corporate bean counters to do it.
