Ant-Man: Info, Pics, Rumors, Casting and Details till release

Looks like fun, but probably a rental.

I think the biggest thing I took away from the trailer is how much Douglas looks like his old man, with a goatee.

On a Facebook movie group I'm a part of, everyone was postulating what the opening numbers for this film would be. Most of the numbers were high.. between 75-90 million opening weekend.

I said 45 (whih is still a lot) and people thought I was nuts. and Then later I revised mine to 35 and people asked me why.

Now, they could be right. The movie could be a huge hit. But it's important to know that the only reason it would make 75 as opposed to 35 is because Marvel's name is stamped above the logo.. That's the only reason. That, and this:

which says nothing about the merits of these films..
 
My point: Marvel makes "fun and entertaining" films At best. That's it. Yet if I criticize a film the fanboys come out of the woodwork and act offended that I'm ripping a masterpiece, until a critical point might be valid then they retreat and say "can't you just enjoy this fun and entertaining film?" Look at the culture.. how much people are pumping up these films. I think Star Trek is was and always will be one of the greatest media franchises ever.. but even as it was going, and even during the years that I loved it the most it was never above a large dose of criticism, and there were actually only a few entries that could be considered close to classics, and those after about 15-20 years had passed. Yet people seem to get offended - like actually offended - by criticizing Guardians or the other films. My Facebook group had a guy open a thread a month ago saying that "GoTg.. can't it just be considered a classic already?" Even if you think it's a good film.. it's being way overpraised, and classic it is not. My friend watched it recently over a case of mirnoff's and she's not a writer by trade but her review, here, is quite effective at pointing out that while a lot happens in the film, it feels like nothing substantial happened that is worth caring about. It's how I'm starting to feel about all these films. And I hate how marvel is turning away talent (like Wright) for less successful hacks (like Gunn) because they'll conform to a studio's vision. Ugh.
 
I'm not offended, and I don't think you're ripping on masterpieces, I just think you are predictable. And it makes me laugh that you need to bring up your dislike of Marvel movies in every thread you possibly can.

You posting in a Marvel thread to say that you aren't blown away by it, or that the premise is silly, or some such other disparaging comment, has become something of a joke in itself.

There are many people that are.. the people in these groups that open countless speculation threads (today I saw one suggesting that Guardians of The Galaxy 2 could be subtitles Planet Hulk) and constantly talking about tweaks in costumes. For eons before the deal was made, it was all about how Spidey should be a part of the MCU. It's ridiculous.. That being said, I can understand the excitement to a point. I remember being stoked about each episode during DS9's Dominion War, and endlessly speculating.. but even then I was not afraid to step back a bit and think more critically about that great series. The point that video made about how these "clickable stories" are generated is absolutely true and accounts for a large percent of why Marvel is successful.

The other reason is that Feige is a smart man. even when he makes a mistake he tends to learn from it. However.. with all he has done for film making, nothing has even really been innovative. Living in the Marvel Age is not like living in the time between 77-83 where the blockbuster was being born and every single department of film, from models, to blue screen to even printing were all showing signs of growth and innovation. Instead the single most innovative thing Fiege did was Iron Man (where in he found the entire MCU's tone and voice with RJDjr's performance) and a way to do that suit that looked great.
 
I think we can all agree that Marvel movies aren't perfect, FSM, but you coming into these threads to try to persuade us that they're the worse thing since slice bread is wearing thin.

And come on! How the beep is Yellowjacket versus Thomas the Tank Engine not something to get excited over? ;)
 
Not everything has to be an innovation. Sometimes it's ok to just be a movie.

And I'm sure there have been many variations of that type of scene, in both live action and anime, but it doesn't mean nobody can ever use it again.

This is what makes your anti-Marvel posts so amusing; you'll use anything, no matter how trivial or insignificant, to attack Marvel films. It's just as sad as being a fanboy.

What company is not going to advertise who is making their own movie? And Marvel is it's own studio. United Artists put it's logo on Heaven's Gate, did that chase anyone away from it?


There are many factors involved in deciding to see a movie, actors, director, writer, subject, genre, bored an it's the least stinky thing out that day, no one thing really overrides all of that.

Unless Nick Fury really is Mace Windu and he's using his Jedi Voodoo to make us see all his company's movies.

I want to see Ant Man because:

Most of the comic books I've read have been Marvel Universe books.

I think Michael Douglas and Paul Rudd have been good actors in other things I've seen them in.

Hayley Atwell is going to be in it and I really like her.

I like the characters from the comics and I am hoping they make a good movie while not abandoning the source material.

I've enjoyed every other Marvel movie recently and the universe is interconnected. I'm looking forward to the individual story of the movie but also the background forwarding of the universe's story and I'm hoping someone might show up in there, like Bill Foster or Carol Danvers.

Actually, I'd like if they cast Ernie Hudson as Bill Foster. I think he would be good in that role, he's been good in every movie I've seen him in.

Of course not. the scene in the trailer WAS funny and my post had a bit of jest to it.

I don't criticize everything about the Marvel films.

Iron Man .. they really nailed the tone, voice of these films. And the suit.
Thor.. the fish out of water parts were good.
The Avengers.. seeing them all fight together at the end was a lot of fun and it felt like a comic book.
The Winter Soldier had the most teeth of any of the films.. not perfect, but admirable. The best scene was the Fury chase. The last act is what bugs me.

There are other things I like about the films.

My point was that the opening estimates the fans are giving to this film are only as high s they are thanks to that logo.. even with that logo, it was iffy months ago how well this film will do.

So what? Marvel have a proven record recently of making good films that are largely true to the comics and are well cast. When you go shopping, you buy the brands that you like because you know you like them. Is it that surprising that people do the same with films?

And I don't see how that is a surprise, or a bad thing, or whatever it is you're trying to make it out to be.

How is it any different to people saying they'll see a film just because it is made by their favourite director, or stars their favourite actor/actress?
