Ant-Man: Info, Pics, Rumors, Casting and Details till release

Rashida Jones just signed on for a new television pilot for TBS. There may have been concerns about scheduling in the event the show goes to series.

If she had been serious about getting the Wasp role, she shouldn't have signed on to a tv pilot yet. Nearly all of them aren't picked up, and more than half each year end up getting canceled before the first season finishes. Being in a successful movie would greatly enhance her career more than some show.

The show is a good bet to be picked up and cable shows have much lower cancellation rates than broadcast network shows. If she was a shoo-in for Ant-Man she probably would have gone for that instead, but the security of a TV deal may have been more attractive if she was just one of a number of actresses in contention for Ant-Man. Anyway, it's just speculation. We'll see who actually ends up getting the part.

Who knows, maybe it was the other way around. Maybe the Ant-Man deal fell through (for any number of reasons) so she jumped on the TV pilot instead. For all we know, the Ant-Man thing was a dead issue before the TV offer came along.

There's no reason to assume that it was an either/or thing where she had to choose. Remember, aside from the occasional rumor, we have no idea what's going on behind the scenes or when these decisions were made.

It's not like either Jones or Marvel was going to put out a press release about not hiring her . . ..

Patrick Wilson joins the cast:

http://www.deadline.com/2014/02/patrick-wilson-to-join-marvels-ant-man/

EXCLUSIVE: Patrick Wilson will join the cast of the Edgar Wright-directed Ant-Man for Marvel Studios, I hear. The film Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas and Michael Pena. Not sure what role Wilson will play at this point. He is coming off two fright franchise The Conjuring and Insidious. Wilson is repped by CAA and Anonymous Content.

I wonder why they didn't just name what his role is going to be?

Perhaps it's tied to another bit of casting not yet nailed down?

Still waiting to hear if the Evangeline Lilly casting is going to be official and in what capacity her role would be.

I've read speculation that Wilson might be playing a younger Hank Pym in flashbacks. Sounds fairly plausible to me.

Here's an odd thought.

A tactical application of Pym particles will reverse wrinkles and sag.

Shrinking down to 1/2 an inch is an impossibly effective face lift.

The shock of pulling his skin back and forth might even be the reason why a 40 years old Hank Pym is being played by 70 year old Michael Douglas?

Works for me.

I'm still hopefully of crossover potential with Young Hank Pym and either Agent Carter or an Agents of SHIELD flashback episode. Having another actor for that role (as opposed to CGI de-aging of Douglas) helps.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is released and doing gangbusters

Guardians of the Galaxy marketing for an Aug 1 release is in motion.

Avengers Age of Ultron has begun principal photography.

Where are we with Ant-Man?

Actor Matt Gerald is joining the cast in an unspecified role as "one of the villains".
According to the ever-reliable Deadline, the latest name attached to the Edgar Wright-directed adaptation is Matt Gerald. Best known for his roles in Avatar, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, and Showtime's Dexter, the actor will apparently play "one of the bad guys," but his character may be already established in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Matt Gerald played 'White Power Dave' opposite Sir Ben Kingsley in the Marvel One-Shot: All Hail the King....it is unknown if he will play the same character in Ant-Man

Filming starts late May and additional location shootings in June for San Fran and Atlanta have gone up at an industry posting board.
ANT-MAN - June, 2014 - San Francisco, CA & Atlanta, GA; Details Are only Available By Subscription.. STORY: The film is about biochemist Dr. Hank Pym using his latest discovery, a group of subatomic particles, to create a size-altering formula. Though his first self-test goes awry, he develops an instrument that helps him communicate with and control insects. (Posted: December 17, 2013. Revised: April 14, 2014)

I expect additional casting to also pick up for this in the next few weeks. Still waiting on confirmation for several key parts including Evangeline Lilly.

Well, shit.

I mean, Marvel have been handling their cinematic universe really well recently, but getting rid of Edgar Wright seems like it can't be anything but a major misstep.

Whoa, that's crazy, after all this time. Especially since Ant-Man isn't exactly a hot property so if it's not a labor of love I wonder if it's really worth it.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Wright's involvement was a huge part of why I was looking forward to this. Marvel had better have a really incredible replacement up their sleeves.
