News Ant-Man and the Wasp

With production starting next week and the breaking news that Michelle Pfiffer has been cast as Janet Van Dyne in the Ant-Man sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp, the time has come for a thread! Jan, of course, is the original Wasp, and a founder of the Avengers in the comics. It would seem that they rescue Jan, but she aged in the meantime after all?
Other casting news includes the confirmed return of Michael Pena as Luis

Walter Goggins, Hannah John-Kamen, and Randall Park have all landed roles.

Lawrence Fishburne will be bringing Bill Foster to the MCU.

And, Of course, Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lily, Michael Douglas and director Peyton Reed are all slated to return as well.

Michelle Pfeiffer as Jan is pretty great casting. I was wondering if they'd have Jan age in the quantum realm or not. I'm glad they decided to go that route; I think it would have been awkward for them to rescue a thirtysomething Jan and then have her interact with seventyish Hank.

Laurence Fishburne is always good. It's interesting that Randall Park will be playing a SHIELD agent. I wonder if Jimmy Woo will be a present day SHIELD agent or if he worked with Hank, Jan and Bill when they were active in the '80s.

I'm very curious to know who Hannah John-Kamen will be playing. She's awesome on Killjoys.

Ooo...I like the casting choice of Michelle Pfiffer as Janet. I wonder if she'll keep her blonde hair or if they'll dye her hair brunette. Or has Janet been a blonde in the comics? I've only ever read a handful of older issues with her.

I'm also very happy that Walton Goggins has joined the MCU. I hope they go against his normal convention and play a good guy.

So I found a leaked image from the panel on Twitter and Hannah John-Kamen is playing a character named Ghost. In the comics, Ghost was a originally an Iron Man villain, so it'll be interesting to see how she (Ghost was a man in the comics) fits into Ant-Man's little corner of the MCU.

ETA: And Walton Goggins will be playing Sonny Burch, another Iron Man antagonist, but with some ties to Darren Cross.

Ah, well, I guess it was too much to hope for Goggins to play a protagonist. Still, he's great at playing antagonists, so that should be good.

A thought occurs: Do we know if Janet (or Hank for that matter) will be in the second Infinity War film? We know that Hope isn't in the first one (so not to upstage her first appearance as Wasp) but presumably she's in the second one and maybe that extends to Janet and Hank. If so, it would be incredibly nerdy if the Russo brother staged a moment with the original Avengers standing together at last.

As much as the Michelle=Janet casting news was great I'm even more stoked that Fishburne is Bill Foster. I've stated before I felt bringing in Foster was a logical next step. Especially after Civil War showed us "accidental" Giant Man. The Ant-Man franchise is indeed a nice little gem in the MCU!

I'm way more excited for this than I thought I'd be and I was a champion of the first film when uninitiated folks were making Ant-Man jokes like they used to about Aquaman. Now both characters are gaining respect and larger fanbases!!!

I'm definitely looking forward to it. I watched the first film again the other day, and other than Bobby Cannavale's character, I really enjoy it.

Wow that is a great cast. Michelle Phfiffer as Janet is a nice surprise, and I'm a big fan of Lawrence Fishburne, so I'm always happy to see him. I've seen Walter Goggins in a few things, but I'm not very familiar with him.
Will Lawrence Fishburne be the first person to have active roles in both the MCU and the DCEU at the same, assuming we haven't seen the last of Perry White?

I'm definitely looking forward to it. I watched the first film again the other day, and other than Bobby Cannavale's character, I really enjoy it.
It went the other way for me on second viewing. Not liking Cannavale's character (he's a dub trope), rather the whole thing feeling rather flat.

I recalled enjoying it first time round, but noting its thin-ness. That 2-dimensional nature really sung through on 2nd viewing and only a few bits really stuck out as worthwhile (most of which had a whiff of Edgar Wright thinking)

Thankfully one of the good things was Paul Rudd, who I really enjoyed, so there is always hope for Ant-Man & The Wasp.

I'm curious now how well Dr Strange is going to hold up for second viewing as that registered at the same level as Ant-Man did.

Hugo - wants to see something crazy out of the next film
