Chances of Burnham being put back in her place by some guy = 0.
I was completely confused what a "masculine" alpha male means, and what other type of alpha male there might be?
Yeah, it sounds that way for sure.I'm only imagining one "omg yay" right now, he's going to put an uppity woman lead back in her place, I mean who does she really think she is thinking she can carry a Star Trek series mostly by herself, and all she's offering is an amazing and award winning performance, right?
Did the show need saving?
Yes, but not in the actor department. It is the writers who were the problem.Did the show need saving?
Cool. You're entitled to your opinion, but many would agree (even on this forum) that Jason Issacs easily overshadowed Sonequa/Burnham last season and commanded the screen. I anticipate Anson Mount will do the same this year.

A massive oversimplification, but I expected nothing less.

Paul Feig approves of your post.
Sonequa's Burnham being terrible has to do with the way the character is written and presented, not her race/gender.
Lest we forgot my love for Danai Guirra (Okoye) and how she would have been a far better lead for this series, with a strong engaging presence.

There's also nothing wrong with having a Masculine alpha male lead on the cast to balance things out. Worked well with Jason Isaacs and it will again with Anson Mount. It adds to the diversity of the cast.
Did the show need saving?
Indeed. This is a topic of its own, unrelated to the show's putative testosterone count.

Now that a woman is in the lead, some men feel threatened. Having some “masculine alpha male”-ness makes these individuals feel better about being a man.
Or something.
But, alas, they couldn't commit. He had to be explained as being from the Universe of Dicks.*
The wolfpack model is as germane to good character study as are the Jung personality types. That is to say not at all.I always find the notion of "alpha males" funny because the original publication about alpa/beta mentality of wolves was revoked by the authors and never really applied to humans anyway.
SMG owns this show. She is clearly the lead and the cast all look to her. I saw her and the cast at SDCC 2018. She's the leader of the troupe. And the producers intend her character to be the show's "captain to be" not Saru or Pike or (insert white male here).
They definitely need to up their game on the writing if that is the case. They really don't seem to understand how to write the character. Hopefully, season two will change that.
