Anson Mount as Pike SAVES This Show! Wow.

My only issue with Pike is visual. His uniform is terrible. Especially the collar... yikes. He looks like some metrosexual runway fashion designer from Milan.

Would have even preferred the Beyond uniforms over it.

It looks like they took the DIS uniform design and gave it a TOS-like color scheme.

Gotta say, Anson looked quite younger on Inhumans last year and more in line with how Hunter appeared in The Cage:

I think they aged his look up on Discovery to match the Bruce Greenwood version better. We may see a lot of Kelvin Pike in this version.

The Season 1 trailer looked terrible and dour, and get very mixed reactions, from the casting to the designs to the terrible Klingons. Plus the emo music choice.

This is a breath of fresh air in comparison, and actually doesn't look joyless.

Season 1 trailer had a great sense of wonder, imo, that had been missing from Trek for a long time. This one feels mostly generic and seems to be trying to sell me solely on (unmemorable) action, lowest common denominator jokes (did they really go to the time and expense of making that Saurian character just for a snot joke?) and vague, indecipherable story hints. In a trailer for an ongoing series, we don't even get to see anything about the established characters who are the main reason I'm still coming back for more, except for a sweet Tilly/Stamets moment about math.

Overall I'd have to say this trailer is pretty crappy in general, and the only reason it doesn't seriously bother me is because it's so obviously designed to play up the action and humor in a direct attempt to mollify people who hated the first season for being 'joyless' (which it wasn't). I see no reason yet to believe the show has now morphed into something completely different than what it was. And even if that is the case, and even if the first season actually was so joyless, that kind of change almost certainly wouldn't be a good thing, because studios that let the audience lead them by the nose rarely ever make something worth watching.

And there is no reason. Michael still takes center stage (fortunately) and we see conflicts set up (red beacons, Pike coming to take command). While I appreciate the lighter tone, it is by no means an accurate example of what the show will actually be.

Uh, not Kelvin Pike. I can buy Disco Pike. But in the Kelvinverse, Enterprise went on her maiden voyage in 2258. The end of Disco season 1 takes place in 2257 and was referenced in “Lethe” which took place in 2256.

I think he means the way Pike is portrayed.

As in not all “Cage”-depressy and more like in 2009? Got it. Totally down with that.

I do like that they’re making Pike the co-lead here this season. I worry, however, this is going to be a “Captain of the season” show. #CaptainSaruSeason3
