Anson Mount as Pike SAVES This Show! Wow.

Just in the 2 minute trailer alone. So much charisma and leadership presence.

That's what I wanted to see.

So glad they are having him as the Discovery Captain.

I honestly don't care about canon for this show at this point, and wouldn't mind if he continued as Captain for future seasons, just for the entertainment value.

I've called out all the terrible mistakes of STD S1, but Anson as Chris Pike is great casting!

Hold on to your hat. It's only a trailer. I recall Season 1 trailer looked good too. Trailers are not always indicative of quality of the show. Having said that, it's better to have a good trailer than bad trailer. At least there is hope.

Whoops, wrong franchise

The Season 1 trailer looked terrible and dour, and get very mixed reactions, from the casting to the designs to the terrible Klingons. Plus the emo music choice.

This is a breath of fresh air in comparison, and actually doesn't look joyless.

After the terrible way they handled Lorca and the mirror universe, I think he's better left forgotten along with that whole storyline.

Jason Isaacs is pure talent, but they ruined his character with that lameass 'twist'.

Let's consider the MU story and done deal and move on.

My only issue with Pike is visual. His uniform is terrible. Especially the collar... yikes. He looks like some metrosexual runway fashion designer from Milan.

Would have even preferred the Beyond uniforms over it.

I was pretty indifferent to the season 1 trailer from a year ago. This one actually looks fun, and I’m liking what we see of the new Pike.

The new uniform on Pike wouldn't look so bad if not for the highschool-marching band gold trim (gold on gold, awkward), and the effeminate scarf collar.

I hope they update the uniform down the line.

I keep thinking that Pike just walked out of a Bolian Barbershop and they forgot to take the fuzzy neck wrap off of him.

The Enterprise uniforms use close to the same palette - if not the very same - as the JJVerse uniforms, matching neither TOS nor the TNG era outfits. May even be the same material.

This teaser looks more like the Abrams movies than it does the first season of this series.

What's interesting about Anson Mount's acting choices for Pike is he seems to be playing him more like Bruce Greenwood, and less like Jeff Hunter.

This isn't Hunter's angsty, angry and emotionally closed off Chris Pike from The Cage, this is more like Bruce Greenwood who can be stern but also is laid back 'father figure' and has a sense of humour and fun.

Whether this is from Kurtzman or not, I feel like STD needs that type of presence, instead of another emotionally closed off character like the Jeff Hunter version.

(That shot of Pike in mustard looks like a middle-aged Bruce Greenwood to me).

He looks fine though and kind of owns it, like Lorca did.

I am hoping that Captain Pike learned something and became less angsty after Talos IV. One of the many reasons I wanted more of him as a kid.
