Another Voyager 1st-time watch thread

Best parts of "Nightingale" are Icheb & finally seeing how the ship gets repaired.

Other than that, what a waste of a fine actor like Ron Glass.

Those establishing shots of Voyager getting work done--with people walking over the hull--were incredible. I wonder how long it took to put together those few seconds of footage? Those shots really impressed me.

On a less happy note, no Voyager tonight. After a long delay, we finally got the time to start watching again...only to find out that Disc 3 is cracked.

Do I miss anything if I skip past "Flesh and Blood," "Shattered," and "Lineage" and start watching Disc 4? It should be getting here tomorrow.

Flesh and Blood you miss something, it brings back some villains from a previous season.

Shattered is a good Chuckles episode, no seriously, it is. :)

And Lineage is kind of important, and one of my personal favorites.

I'll definitely go back and watch them. I'll take a wild guess that the Vidiians are the villains, based on the title, but I guess it could be anyone. But is there any continuity stuff in them that would require me to wait before skipping ahead to whatever's on Disc 4?

Not Vidiians :( I would have loved that. :)

Well there is something in Lineage and since you're going forward anyways it would be OK to tell you, right?

B'Elanna's pregnant, and that becomes important.

"Flesh & Blood" is one of my personal favorites & you need to watch it in order because it's a character developing ep. for the Doc. that plays into his next story.

"Shattered" actually is a good Chakotay ep. but not for Chakotay but for the shows fans IMO............you'll see why. ;)

"Lineage" as much as I LOVE Be'anna as character, they really started to drop the ball on her in this ep. IMO. I never saw her as someone so dumb they'd never consider the issue presented beforehand.

So I guess I'll wait a day or two until I get another copy of Disc 3. I will not click that spoiler tag, as tempting as it is.

It's a girl.

Why am I thinking of the end of "Glow Girl" now?

At long last, we got time to sit down and watch an uncracked disc 3. The result was a look at the edited-together...

"Flesh and Blood"

I see from the credits that Vaughn Armstrong is in this. I have no idea who he played--I guess one of the Hirogen.

And the Hirogen are back. Yay! Though they don't have any better luck with their holodecks than the Starfleeters.

Did anyone else think that this episode would have been right up Barclay's alley?

I really liked this one. I legitimately didn't know what was going to happen along the way, and it's a big budget, action/adventure Trek episode done right. Robert Picardo did most of the heavy lifting in the acting department, with a nice assist from Roxann Dawson, who really shines. Robert Beltran seemed pretty motivated and Chakotay got some good material. I liked the scene where Chak and Tuvok confronted Janeway about working with the Hirogen.

This is the kind of call-back to a past episode that works.

Story-wise, they wrapped up a lot of stuff pretty quickly--the CMO basically betrayed the entire ship, but that was handwaved away by the Captain in a way that didn't totally satisfy me. But as an entertaining episode, it really worked.

Did anyone else think it would have been awesome to have the Hirogen engineer join the crew?

I loved that nerdy little Hirogen engineer. I agree that it would have been great to have him along! What a cutie.

I was okay with Janeway handwaving Doc's little defection off - in this case, I really do think she was at fault for the whole debacle in the first place. I mean, I know... Doc's his own person and all, but she DID allow him to expand, and she can't really demote him a la Tom Paris.

And she gave that tech to the Hirogen in the first place! It is very hard for anyone to watch this episode with me because every time she expresses regret for forking over the tech, I shout "VINDICATION! See why you didn't throw replicators at the Kazon? YEAH, THAT'S WHY!" Also, they did some sweet stuff with the visuals. I really like the shot of the holo-Fleeters bursting out of the pond and shooting like crazy, and the bit when Doc "bled" on the camera.

But, seriously... VINDICATION.

There were a lot of really interesting shots in the episode(s). In part one there was an interesting reaction shot where the camera was focused on Chakotay, then zoomed back to show Janeway, then cut to Torres in Engineering.

Great episode.

In this episode the ship didn't just get broken, it got...

"Shattered"

This was an outstanding episode. It had everything--a sci-fi concept, good character moments, and even some action. Well, I take that back. When they were in the Captain Proton program, I told my wife that if they could have a scene with the Doctor singing, the episode would have everything.

And Robert Beltran was phenomenal in this one: it's proof that he could do a really good job when he needed to. He absolutely carried the episode.

Nice touch with him quoting from Dante's Inferno, then acting as Janeway's Virgil in her tour through ChronoVoyager.

So if Icheb was first officer, who was captain of the Voyager 17 years in the future?

Did Chakotay shoot himself in the foot with the "there are some barriers we never cross" response? It seemed like Janeway was totally into him for a while there, until he reminded her that she wasn't.

Tuvok had an incredibly moving death scene. They could have made it a better episode by giving him more to do.

I don't know what else to say, except that I really liked this episode. I probably didn't catch all of the references to previous episodes, but the ones that I did catch, I liked.

This made me laugh right out loud. :rommie: Not Chak doing it. The way you described it.

As he said it, I said, "Dude! She totally would have done it with you! You should have just kept your mouth shut!"

I guess he was just over-awed by the power of the bun.

I love Shattered. It was a great way to round out the series in the last season.

I wished I could have shot Chak for saying that, but in the end the stupid Temporal Prime Directive has to be adhered to.

And I'm guessing Harry was Captain, maybe Tom.

As someone once said, it was the PERFECT moment for him to kiss her, since she wouldn't have remembered later "anyway"...

Or would she?

JANEWAY: Any predictions?
CHAKOTAY: Only that in a few minutes this bottle will be empty.
JANEWAY: Then maybe you should go to the Cargo Bay and grab another one.
CHAKOTAY: How do you know that's where I keep it?
JANEWAY: Oh, I can't tell you.
CHAKOTAY: Why not?
JANEWAY: Temporal Prime Directive.

:guffaw:

This ep has my FAV Janeway eyeroll of all time, when he arrives on the bridge after saving the ship, and asks her to accompany him back to her quarters to finish dinner.

Its at 10:06

I really liked "Shattered." I like the time-travel episodes. I did notice Seven of Nine's familiarity with the crew, however. She was supposed to have just gotten to Voyager and shouldn't have known any of them...

Yay future Icheb and Naomi! Was it just me, or did they appear as a "couple"? How did you people determine Icheb.future was supposed to be the XO? I missed that part.

I think Tuvok's death was supposed to show us that this was all pseudo-real and was going to be reversed. We all know Russ's character wasn't going to die like Crosby's did. This was season 7 for crying out loud, not season 1.

And Maquis Be'lanna-- that was pretty neat. Especially when she comes in and attacks Seska the Cardassian. The episode should have shown us the part where she reacts to learning Seska isn't a Bajoran...
