Another Voyager 1st-time watch thread

And then, when you're thinking that surely they've used up the awesomeness quotient, the Doctor activates the Equinox EMH. I almost panic as I realize that they might give us that goofball from "Message in a Bottle" (or was it another episode), but I'm beaming as I see that it's just Robert Picardo, who again gets to play someone evil. And naturally he's wonderful.

"They deleted my ethical sub-routines"

:: whack ::

I watched pt.1 last night too and am watching pt. 2 tonight. And I agree about the music, it's great!!

"The Void" contains some of my favorite music next to the "Scorpion" theme, I think. But this one is really good too. And glad you liked Part I so much! I am intensely curious what you'll think of II. I know you don't want spoilers, but this is a screenie from the very beginning of the episode just to give you an idea:

Unrelated, but I always thought it was weird they played the "Scorpion" theme on the Season 4 DVD menus. Every time I put in a Season 4 DVD I suddenly feel totally hardcore.

DUN DUN DUN DUNDUNDUNDUN

OMG FROOT. SPOILER TAGS PLEEEEEASE!!!!

UPDATE!!!

I've now rewatched Equinox II and.. I HAVE A THEORY. Yeah, yeah you say but I've seen this ep many times and this is the first time this theory has floated into my head so it is worth of capslock in my mind.

I shall say nothing until Shatnerage posts his review.

:D

Looking forward to your theory! I think I'll watch Equinox II myself today. I've only seen it once. This is fun! :)

I like the part where Janeway saddle breaks the unicorn and rides it around the bridge of the Equinox. Gee, I sure hope I formatted these spoiler tags correctly . . .

I loved Combs as Weyoun in DS9, but it sometimes drove me crazy that he did this "duck lip" thing when he talked, kind of like Donald Trump. Anyone else notice that?
Like he's going to chirp.

Yes, noticed it.

:guffaw: It's funny when my 2 year old son makes that face and says "Mama." When a grown man talks like that all. the. time, it's a little weird! But Weyoun is such a kick-ass character and Combs is so spot-on when he plays him, that I can't be too mad at him.

I swear, you are too funny!

I have a theory, too. We'll have to see if they match :)

And LOL Possum. Dammit, that's the best part of the episode and you gave it away

I started to develop a theory a week or so ago, it's kind of helped me get the episode. We'll have to match them up. :D

Dammitt, I gotta think of a theory now. I don't wanna be the only one who just sits there watching with my mouth open and not having a theory.

*think think think*

My theory annoys me. But I can't tell you why because the Shat has not posted. It's still a good theory, I'm just not happy with what it theorizes.

There was a bit of a snafu with my Netflix queue, so now I've got to wait until at least Monday to get the next disc. That thing is still headed straight for Janeway's head, and I've got no idea what happens!

I can only imagine what it was like to have to wait all summer to find out.

In the meantime, I thought I'd share my thoughts on Season 5 as a whole--just a few quick words on each episode and an up or down vote. It's not necessarily a judgment on the episode's artistic merits, but really whether I'd watch it again.

Night--depressed Janeway was great, but we got the Malon. Down.

Drone--another Trek Instachild. As a parent I find it hard to take these episodes seriously. (Exception: "Real Life," in which I'm not ashamed to admit Robert Picardo made me tear up) Down.

Extreme Risk--Now we've got suicidal Torres, too, and the return of the Malon. Some good stuff, but overall I vote Down

In the Flesh--the return of 8472 and even Tucker Smallwood, but this one is still Down for me.

Once Upon a Time--a holodeck episode. Featuring Neelix. And a child actor. And my personal bane, the Flotter Doll. But I've got to say this one is Up, because it's got heart.

Timeless--the best Harry Kim episode I've seen yet, and salt-and-pepper Chakotay. Up.

Infinite Regress--multiple personality Seven gives Jeri Ryan a chance to do some good acting, but the story itself was a mess. Down.

Nothing Human--a fake-looking bug lying on Torres while she lies on a bed in Sickbay. But then a real episode breaks out at the half-way point as the Doctor debates his Cardassian counterpart. Because of that, Up.

Thirty Days--Paris is in a pretty cushy prison cell and tells a story in flashback form. Down.

Counterpoint--Probably one of my Top Ten Trek episodes. Way, way Up.

Latent Image--a Doctor-centered episode that touches on some serious ideas. Up.

Bride of Chaotica!--Everyone looked like they were having fun. Up.

Gravity--Stuck in a desert with Lori Petty. Down.

Bliss--Everyone but Seven and NaomiWildman thinks they're heading home. Plus an Irish Space Pirate. Way Up.

Dark Frontier--epic Borg episode that reintroduces the Borg Queen and has some decent Janeway/Seven stuff, but for me it's Down. Though it had its moments like the NaomiWildman dream.

The Disease--Harry gets a Space STD and gets chewed-out over a heretofore unmentioned part of the Starfleet Code. Just think of how Rudy would have reacted on the Equinox. Down.

Course:Oblivion--It's not Voyager, it's Soyager. With Dickian undertones. Up.

The Fight--this one is Down for the count.

Think Tank--Jason Alexander as an evil mastermind, and Seven takes center stage. Up.

Juggernaut--More Mayhem, More Malons. Torres goes Ripley, but it's still Down.

Someone to Watch Over Me--my second-favorite episode of the season, and who could forget "Seven of Mine?" Up.

11:59--despite getting to see Kate Mulgrew do something different, it's Down.

Relativity--fun time travel romp. Up.

Warhead--not totally original, until the Doctor is taken over. Down.

Equinox--I don't know how it resolves, but Part I is great. Up.

I'm surprised that I've got more Downs than Ups (13-12). I still really liked the season, and most of the Downs aren't "worst Trek ever" but are "not bad, but nothing I'd go out of my way to rewatch." And the good was really, really good.

Speaking only for myself.... it SUCKED! :p

Seven and our EMH on the Equinox.

Voyager shieldless and under attack by homicial aliens.

Chakotay turning to see said aliens going straight for Janeway.

"CAPTAIN!" he and we shout in tandem!

But afterall, that IS the point, right? :bolian:

Make us "wonder" all summer... "How the heck are they going to get out of THIS one?" :vulcan:

At least all you have to do is wait a weekend. ;)

It ended with the wonderful cliffhanger because Kate Mulgrew supposedly wanted to leave.

At least that's what I heard.

I just rewatched the Equinox two parter and I have to say, I agree about the awesome music selection. I look forward to what Shatnertage has to say about it all. I didn't remember a lot of the little things and now I realize what significant meanings they had. Great season closer/opener. Can't wait to hear these theories!

Interesting that on the Bio 'Captain's Special' one of the people interviewed (I don't recall who) said that Archer was the first captain to really threaten someone (to put him out an airlock).

Boy, I sure thought Janeway did that in Equinox.

I'm sure they meant in the timeline of Trek. Archer came first, ergo he did it 'first.'
But I thought Sisko threatened that once or twice on DS9 (to Quark).

I think that was bluster to Quark. Interesting though as Archer was pushed to a great extreme and the earth was at stake. Won't say more as Shat has yet to do his review so no spoilers should be posted.
