Another Voyager 1st-time watch thread

Is this it? If it is I like it too. In fact, I find myself getting nostalgic for the 90s/2000 time period quite often and watch old music videos or trailers from back then.

And while it is an ENT trailer I enjoy this one too--http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMAJoutys78

Close, but no cigar.

I remember putting it on the speakers behind my chair, and being shaken out of the chair while the promo ran on the computer.

(IIRC I downloaded that promo from Jupiter Station, "back in the day".)

It used to be on Vidiot's site as well (seems that's where this YT user gets all his vids.) I remember this promo VERY WELL for the exact same reason, JR! It was both a wide shot and a scream not heard in the final episode, but I remember it got our attention on the ol' forums! We chatted about that bad boy for weeks before the episode aired ;)

Zero stars for "Sacred Ground"? Ouchies. I'm fond of that one for the following reasons:

A) It's a rare pro-religion message.
B) It's a KJ episode, with bonus nudity ;)
C) George's mom
D) Jedi robes

Also, in "Unimatrix Zero," I think the Queen was just messing with Harry because she knew she could.

EDIT: That's not the right promo, JR? That's the one I remember downloading, and the same one they showed during sweeps. I don't remember another one. The shot used at the end is not what was in the final cut of the episode.

Maybe its my speakers? I just remember it being long loud and harrowing.

Oh. I love the Borg Queen's obsession with Harry.

I almost forgot about that.

BQ: "See you later, Harry"
HK: "What did she mean by that?"

The Borg Queen... "The Uber Cougar!"

:guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

She does dress slightly provocative.

Did we ever find out what the Queen meant by that? I can't remember . . . .

To me, it meant... "I'll see you when I come by and assimilate Voyager."

And it meant, "See, Captain, I know who each and everyone of your people is by name, and I can take anyone of them away from you at anytime."

You folks need to come hang out in da' hood more often.
We call that a veiled threat.
She actually talking to Janeway, what she means is: "Keep messing in my business and I'll be making baby Harry and all you bitches my Drones. Be thankful I'm giving you a free pass.";)

The Queen's pimp hand is strong.

During "Dark Frontier", didn't you get the impression the Queen was grooming Seven to one day be a Queen?

I actually had that feeling back in Scorpion.

That's the excuse the writer's can use for the whole "I speak for the Borg."
Good point.

I always read it as dramatic device to allow Seven to communicate with crew. But I'm more than happy to buy that theory. Although the whole who/wtf is the Borg Queen is another can of worms...

I thought that Janeway's scream in that trailer sounded more like a bark.

In the actual episode, her scream was pretty disturbing.

So is the Borg Queen something they assemble, or is it the Borg consciousness distilled into a single drone, or is it a single "special" drone who rises to the top? Is there one Queen for all of the Borg, or is it just something they throw together when things get serious, and there's more than one of them?

I think the Queen is made.

They assimilate her and then they mold her into being the Queen.

I'm sure my sister has a better explanation but she's swimming so that's the best I have.

There wasn't a really definitive answer in canon. In TrekLit, a group of drones can make a Queen by giving a regular ol' drone the Borg equivalent of royal jelly.

But Locutus didn't use "I" or "me" or "my"

But that was also Michael Piller and this was Brannon Braga and Joe Menosky.

But I've never heard/read a good rationale for the Queen. As far as I know, she was made up by Moore and Braga to give Data something to play off and as a blatant Aliens rip-off. The whole concept of a Queen seems counter to idea of collective, but I'm sure this has been debated ad nauseum here (though not by newcomers)...

Which is close lurok.

She was created because Moore and Braga were having trouble writing the central computer as the bad guy.

And for Data too.

I was just curious if there was a better *cough* in-universe explanation :)

*Ponders*

Nah.

Basically Moore and Braga were stumped.

They were supposedly going to explain it if ENT got a fifth season.

Damn them to hell! :) And that ENT never got fifth/sixth/seventh season...

Going into FC I thought the Queen was a good idea--a female version of Locutus--a single Borg emotionless detached that the Collective speaks through--the queen would not have been any more or less important than any other Borg.

Then the movie made her a complete engima with a bunch of vague riddles. VOY moved her more into leader status and by the end of the series it was pretty clear she was an assimilated drone turned into a Queen i.e. her stating to Seven in DF she was from species 125 and in UZ she said she was assimilated as a child. She seems to be a true believer the way Seven was--meaning that being assimilated as a child she only ever knew the Borg and believed in their goals hence why they allow Queens to have their individuality-they don't have to worry about them running off the way an assimilated adult who regains their original personality would do.

Still the nature of the Queen should have been made clearer they have a feature film and several appearances on a tv series to do that.
