This just oozes cool.
so I'll just jot down some "answers" to opinions or questions I noted, hopefully it will make some sense...
do this to match up to the internal engineering area...I've got some other ideas to play with, though. "jet engine style"? do you mean something solid, like an SR-71 cone (or the Kelvin), or an orifice/intake?
I'm trying to think what else would give it a less advanced look...
(except for Bryce mountains LOL)
They were interesting, just to give some examples: "USS Cruzeño", "USS Bella Bella", "USS Gros Ventre", "USS Nabesna", "USS Ventureño", "USS Dakelh", "USS Arikara", ...so, something like that?I have to say it's one of the best I've seen. The aircraft influences are evident and the glass housings for the deflectors make it look like a 50's rocketship,
^ What he said!I have to say it's one of the best I've seen. The aircraft influences are evident and the glass housings for the deflectors make it look like a 50's rocketship, a bit like Fireball XL5. Love the swoopy looks and the overall design aesthetics, this is a beaut. Personally I wouldn't change a thing.

) but...it may just look like this in the end. (A lot of aircraft have odd looking front views as well, so maybe I'll just lock it in and accept it). Heck once it's shaded, painted and marked up, it may be alright. Can't believe I just now discovered this thread.
GREAT design! I love it when people throw mid-1900's styling into Trek ships.
One question, is the final one going with a sort of gun-metal grey color scheme, kinda like that ol' NCC-1701 XL you did a while back?
It just peels away some tiles, rather than bending/damaging larger structures.)Can't believe I just now discovered this thread.

Thanks! Well, sort of. I'm trying to get away from that aztec look, using "bigger pieces", more like 1950's bare metal aircraft. (I suppose using smaller hull panels has advantages, like if a giant saucer section floats into youIt just peels away some tiles, rather than bending/damaging larger structures.)

Nah, big panelling is the way to go. After all, you're going with a more primitive starfleet look. Perhaps even throwing in some paint like this:
