Yes, this is an amazing quality of Garak. Did anyone here ever read the Garak novel by Andrew Robinson. I started it, but then somehow misplaced it. I might try to get to back to it someday....

Geez, I'm 10 episodes behind already, good jobs its the weekend tomorrowI'll wait for folks to catch up before I go into 'Past Tense'.
In my opinion it's a great book, If you like Garak I recommended the book
The Search I & II: A-
A great start to the new season. I thought the mystery of Odo's existence was very well developed. And, of course, it would pay off in a big way later in many episodes to come. Even though he was a hologram, I loved Garak's appearance! So funny and poignant.

Anyway, the first time I saw this episode I was confused by the ending, but just for half a minute, because I remember some of that story.....

OK I'm 2 down, got through the search I & II since I am watching in real time I might be able to be a bit better with my reviews.
Ok so on to the episode, its another great start to a season, though honestly I prefered the circle trilogy of season 2 as a start.
DS9 finally gets itself a proper ship, and its one of the best moves that the producers could have made, the runabouts were too limited when it came to exploration of the Gamma quadrent, though it still gets its ass handed to it in its first encounter against the Jem'Hadar considering what we see she is capable of in the future means O'Brien is one hell of a Chief Engineer and must really upgrade the ship after this episode.
Along with the ship came 2 people Commander Eddington and T'Rul, I always though Eddington was just too smarmy for my tastes so I never liked him from the start, but I wished that they keep T'Rul about, I mean it made no sense for her to leave after this episode as the Romulans would still want to keep a close eye on the cloaking device just seems like a plot hole to me.
Jadzia's hair looked different right from the start of this season, I am not sure how but I felt she got more attractive as time went on (seems like it was in proportion to her evergrowing hair length which is funny since I always prefered Ezri but that can wait for season 7
)
Odo like flying off the handle doesn't he immediatly offering his resignation to Sisko, but it was funny about how Odo said he was tied to Starfleet regulations, since when? the pilot showed that DS9 was a Bajoran station and that Starfleet were just the administrators so why is he tied to starfleet rules and not Bajoran rules?
Anyway, something else I noticed was that the Jem'Hadar that borded the ship acually attacked Odo, does that mean they did not recognize him as a founder? did the founders simply take the same shape as Odo just for his benefit (I mean they are much better at shapeshifting then Odo so why look like him otherwise), if this is the case then perhaps thats why the Vorta did not recognize him in the season 2 finale, the founder had never taken on that shape before.
Finally, just how many personnel were on the defiant? only the officers were taken to the surface and put in the 'VR machine' what happened to everyone else? were they killed? was the defiant vastly understaffed?
Hopefully I will get to more episodes tomorrow

Observation. This episode missed an opportunity to cover how the mentally ill are the real victims in this episode and in our society.
Addicts and the mentally ill make up the majority of the homeless in this coutry. Not hard working folks that are down on their luck.
Star Trek just doesn't do human historical bad guys very well. Just like the NYC WWII era gangsters in STE: Storm Front, these "bad guys" are poorly acted and hammy at best.
I thought Vin was not acted very well and BC was a joke.
This is the standard Rich guy = bad, blah, blah…
If this episode preaches anything, it's that the government can't be the solution. These districts were set up by the government and it's obvious they fail miserably. Just like the "war on poverty" has affected no change what-so-ever. The same percentage of the population are poor or disadvantaged now that were in the early 60's. Over 1 trillion dollars wasted. Again, more proof that the government isn't the answer.
But in trek, the "Federation/Star Fleet" is the utopian socialist answer to everything...
Just how does the death of Gabril Bell eliminate Star Fleet? Anyone?
I don't hate this episode, but that folks put in on such a pedestal is puzzling.
Did Sisko do the right thing under these circumstances? I think so. I’ll give him credit for sure.
Man, you’d think that Star Fleet would fix or redesign these transporters…. Time after time after time after time after time… (get the point?) they fail transforming into a convenient plot device. Darn that annular confinement beam power stabilizer do-wopee thing-a-ma-jig. I have to wonder how many Romulans have been sprinkled throughout the timeline because of those pesky chroniton particles? … you know the ones that get lodged in the armor? But hey, Kirk brought back 2 hump-backed whales using technobabble time travel, you remember, the one where Spock has to take manual control of the thrusters while the ship heads straight at the sun at “warp 9 point”… pretty good reactions, eh?
I’ll give it 3 out of 4 stars.

Predictable Part II because everything meaningful was revealed in Part I. If only Star Fleet hadn't disappeared and everything had to happen the way it happened historically so we get Star Fleet back, maybe we would have got some suspense/surprise here.
But we didn't.

O'brien and Kira hitting different time periods was cute.
Anyone know why Sisko's picture replaced Bell's in the history books? Didn't they leave Bell's body there for the police to find, etc?

Why is Bareil/Winn negotiating? Shouldn't they be in church? I guess they haven't figure out how to separate Church and State yet.
I'm not sure I agree with Bashir's "treatment" here. Just because there is an experimental drug, doesn't mean he needs to prescribe it when a safer option is readily available. I don't care what the patient wants. Bereil can reject going into stasis, but Bashir should have not given him this harmful drug.
Doctors can "do no harm". This drug definitely did that and Bashir knew it would.
I liked the "B" story with Nog and Jake.
"NOG: At least I didn't have her chew." ... lol
"JAKE: Great. So we both disgust each other. You know, as we get older, this is just going to get worse. But I know one thing. I don't want to lose you as a friend."
Good for them. IDIC aye.

The House of Quark
Quark is one of my favorite characters, and I like Klingon episodes, and so this is an entertaining enough episode for me. Parts of it didn't quite ring true, but I give it a B-. In my rating scheme, only grades of "B" or higher will get an episode on my personal watch list.

As much as I don't look forward to the "Ferengi" episodes, I do enjoy this one.
Little note of trivia. Mary Kay Adamns is no stranger to performing with rubber all over her face, she also played Na’Toth in BAB5. She excelled in both characters.
Mary Kay and Armin work wonders together. I'm glad we get to see these two working together again in the future.
I'll also agree about the "B" story. I didn't want to slap Keiko in this one.

Very interesting reveal about the politics of the Trill home world.
The "Doctor" wouldn't hesitate to kill to protect their "little secret". Makes one wonder how many others have needlessly died over the years. Although I don’t really see the harm in everyone “knowing”. They still have an initiate process due to the number of Trills available.
I thought this was one of Terry's best performances. It was nice to go to the Trill home world (what's it called anyways.... Trill Prime? :-) ) but it sure would have been nice to see a little more of it.
I loved Odo stirring the soufflé.

I've written too much already about what I think are the problems with Equilibrium. The best I have said is that it is "literally a snooze fest," referring to Farrell during the big reveal.
It's how trek time travel pretty much always works. The timeline is wiped out, sometimes the ship is left alone because (insert technobabble) and the crew has to set things right with occasional hiccups to get things mostly the same.
It goes right back to City on the Edge of Forever (and is totally Effed by the 2009 movie) and is repeated in things like First Contact (movie) and used in things like Future Tense I / II to cover differences between our universe and the Trek one. (though world war 3 and a dark age after were an amazingly prescient choice for explaining why kirk doesn't have an ipod)
That's why sisko replaces Gabriel Bell...the dead one didn't take place in historical events, Sisko as ersatz Bell did, hence his photo turning up.
Yes, I'm aware of how time travel works in the trekverse but we aren't given any reason why Sisko & Co's incursion here could cause the elimination of Star Fleet. In City they gave us something - the Nazi's won, blah blah. Here, nothing.
They left Bell's body there for the police to find. No reason Sisko's picture should have been on the ID.
(Time travel hasn't changed in the 2009 movie either, they just don't want to admit it.
)I don't really remember these episodes well off the top of my head, but since Sisko stepped into the role of bell people would associate him as bell rather than a dead body who played little role in the uprising. Since Sisko did as far as anybody knew he was Gabriel Bell or at least even if there were 2 he was THE Gabriel Bell who was the hero of the day and not the dead guy.
True, Sisko did all that, but it shouldn't have changed the ID.
Well he went into the system as a John Doe if I recall, the system could have been updated after the fact to add a name of Gabriel Bell to the ID in the system as that's what people knew him as.
