Another Nemesis Question...

I've always had a bit of an issue with the way the Worf was handled especially in the TNG movies. I mean he was basically made into the butt of jokes and all, and I may be answering my own question, but at the end if Nemesis, why wasn't Worf promoted to first officer of the Enterprise after Riker assumed command of the Titan?? I was always irritated about that. Another thing that I would have loved to have seen at the end of the movie, was much to the surprise of Worf, having his son Alexander walking onto the bridge of the Enterprise as a new member of her crew. What do you think?

After Change Of Heart Worf was told he could never become a ship's captain so I don't think they'd want him ina position to where he might end up in command. And we don't know how long his current tour of duty is.

yeah, I think that line in "change of heart" should have been dealt with the same way as the "warp 5 speed limit" was in "forces of nature."

^I disagree, in that the warp 5 limit seemed somewhat arbitrary (especially given they circumvented and eventually ignored it), while Worf actually facing consequences for his decision (including a fair amount of self-doubt about his own decision) gave his character a bit more heft. I'm glad the novels did address this a bit.

Where have you been for the last four TNG movies? :) Everyone who wasn't Picard or Data got short shrift. At least Worf got promoted in Generations, albeit in the silliest promotion ceremony of all time. And he got to star in DS9.

Now take Dr. Crusher for example. There's a character that really got screwed over. It looked like by the end of "All Good Things..." she and Picard were going somewhere. And then these four movies come out, and she does NOTHING. Hell, she's credited in Generations as "Beverly!" Not "Dr. Crusher," or "Dr. Beverly Crusher." If I were Gates McFadden I'd have been pissed (or maybe she just didn't care. Who knows?)

I have wondered just what was up with the treatment of McFadden in the movies. She just disappeared from them at times. Kind of a shame.

...at the end if Nemesis, why wasn't Worf promoted to first officer of the Enterprise after Riker assumed command of the Titan??

Who says he wasn't? As far as canonical evidence goes, and discounting deleted scenes that aren't actual parts of the final story, we don't know who got the first officer gig. It was as likely to be Worf as anyone else. Which is why the novels were able to establish that it was Worf.

Well he's not mentioned by name but Picard does talk about needing to train his new first offiicer.

Jean-Luc Picard: I mean, while you are happily settling in on the Titan, I will be training my new First Officer. You all know him. He's a tyrannical martinet who will never, ever allow me to go on away missions.
I would think that he wouldn't need to train Wolf.

^You realize Picard was talking about Data in that quote, right?

Data wasn't going to be the next first officer as far as I know Troi still outranked him.

ETA: And yes I know both Rikers left on the Titan, but the dialogue was changed a bit from the book. And in the end in hte deleted scene it's Maddox who becomes the first officer. But thoe movie is alittle vague on that point.

Huh? Of course Data was supposed to be first officer. Troi was joining her new husband on the Titan.

It's Martin Madden, not Maddox, and he's introduced as a new first officer (only in the non canonical bonus scene and novelization) because Data died during the movie's climax and with Riker and Troi leaving the position is again vacant.

With the movies, they probably didn't know each time if there was going to be another one, so they ended up focusing on the big 2 or 3.

As opposed to the TV show, where they had 24-26 episodes a year to "share the wealth" a little and give each character some face time.

I see your point, but the fact remains all through TOS movies, while the big three were Kirk, Spock, and McCoy, the rest of the main cast were given plenty to do.

It's been years since I watched TOS movies until recently when SyFy was showing a lot of them. I love TNG, but TOS movies have something TNG ones don't. A good balace between all the characters would be part of that something I think.

"Plenty?" I wouldn't say that. Sulu, Uhura, and Chekov had maybe one big moment each in TMP, and Sulu's was getting flustered by Ilia while Chekov's was getting injured by V'Ger and comforted by Ilia. In TWOK, Chekov had an increased role but Sulu and Uhura were still fairly minor players. Uhura was given one big scene in TSFS but then disappeared for most of the film. And most of Sulu's focus material in TVH was left on the cutting-room floor. As for TFF, the ensemble got more to do than usual, but a lot of it was rather ignominious (getting lost in the woods, doing a naked fandance, getting stupidly injured, getting brainwashed by the bad guy). TUC was probably the best one at featuring the whole ensemble, although Sulu's "promotion" meant that he had the least to do, as usual.

That's the episode where Worf chooses saving Dax over saving the Dominion defector with who-knows-how-much useful information. Sisko puts Worf on report, saying that although he understands, it was essentially the wrong call, and Worf is unlikely ever to be considered for command as a consequence of his decision.
