Another Missing Episode Found!

A few utterly pointless missing episode statistics...

30 episodes have now been recovered since the missing episodes list was first made widely available in the 1981 Doctor Who Monthly Winter Special, almost exactly 30 years ago. 1 Pertwee, 16 Hartnell and 13 Troughton.

That's 22% of the then missing episodes. If we get four more, that'd be 25% of them.

We're now down to only 10 totally missing stories (9 if you count Mission to the Unknown as part of Masterplan) - 6 Hartnells and 4 Troughtons. That's not bad considering that the total was 18 back in 1981. Three stories have been completed, out of 30 that were part or completely missing in 1981 (five if you count the animated versions of Invasion and Reign of Terror).

67% of Hartnells now exist, but only 47% of Troughton. We need three more Troughtons to get him over 50%. :-(

Indeed it is. Based off the existing material and fan reconstructions of the missing episodes, Patrick Troughton is my second favorite Doctor. Makes me sad every time I think about how much of his work is lost.

One of the most depressing dreams I've ever had involved Troughton.

In this dream, I went in Target, and there on the new release shelf was a DVD of "Evil of the Daleks." I snatched it up, I took it to the counter, I bought it, and I was so happy.

Then I woke up. Reality set in. And I was depressed.

Surely the Doctor knows by now, how bad we want them

Why doesn't he pop back, gather up all the episodes and plant a really big

stash with everything for us to find

Maybe he has. Maybe that's why they went missing. We just need to hurry up and find them.

Being the pessimist that I am, I really thought the well was dry. I'm very happy to be wrong. :)

So, if another episode were to be found, which would you prefer: an episode from a completely missing story (e.g. Galaxy 4) or an episode from a partially existing story?

Actually, I'd love to see "Mission to the Unknown." It's a one-part self-contained story that would answer the nagging question of which alien ambassador is which (before they got changed around in "Dalek Master Plan.")

As for how to distribute the new-found episodes...I'd love it if they made a "Lost in Time Volume 3" disk, with the eps, plus the remaining eps of "The Tenth Planet" and "The Ice Warriors," both of which are only available in VHS, IIRC.

He can't do that. Their absence is a fixed-point in history.

He makes copies, then the originals go on to being destroyed as history permits, thus no paradox is created.

I'd love it if they made a "Lost in Time Volume 3" disk

As has been said, being a UK production the correct title would be 'volume 2', given the original release was a single collection.

They would have to say Lost in Time Revisited to avoid any trans-Atlantic warfare. :D

Something that completes an incomplete story (which pretty much means Tenth Planet 4, I guess)

Well, my point wasn't so much what to call the disk, but rather what its content should be.

Lost in Time Redux would be ok but given the small amount of newly discovered material I don't see the point.

The two stories you mentioned would be great for releasing on their own, with the bonus 2011 episodes with each respective Doctor as extras.
