Another Lit Wish List Thread

I would like to see a novel series based on the aborted television series Star Trek : Phase II. It would be interesting to explore how the addition of Xon, Decker, and Ilia and the absence of Spock affects the TOS crew and their adventures.

I like that particularly sub-genre of thriller/crime fiction - 'The tough guy' - I want a version of Jack Reacher kicking ass in the Federation (no Calhoun doesn't fit because he's part of the system).

Oh and I want Leisure Suit Larry type story in space - you know the sort of thing, he goes to Risa, gets space VD etc...

No one else thinks that a fictional Kirk biography would be an interesting read? :(

It could be great. Especially if Shatner/J+G Reeves-Stevens wrote it - it would make an interesting Trek version of the BS filled celeb biogs we have today.

I'd also like President Sulu's autobiography (ironically from the Shatnerverse novels)

Something I want:

Tales of Destiny

I know Destiny itself covered this pretty well, with lots of short sections all over known space and featuring lots of our favorite characters. Some of these could be expanded, and lots of new short stories could be written.

I don't know about an ongoing series, but a series of maybe half a dozen books, including adaptations of the most promising scripts and story treatments, would make my day. John Ordover was thinking about doing something like that when he was editor but probably decided it was too niche market.

t'd have to be the Shatner Kirk, because we don't know much about the new guy -- but we know too much about the Shatner Kirk. Would this book cover the animated series? Would it include the books? Would it include the Shatnerverse books?

I like reading biographies, but I have no interest in reading a fictional biography.

I've got C. Northcote Parkinson's The Life and Times of Horatio Hornblower, but I haven't read it yet...

The book would be at the author's discretion regarding what he or she wanted to included in it but for me personally I'd cover what we know to be "canon" as shown in the films and TOS. If the author wanted to they could include material from "Best Destiny". The Shatnerverse books would not count.

Would readers be smart enough to realize that, when events don't mesh exactly with canon, that it's JTK embellishing his lifestory and not a clueless RL author?

Oh, and an "autobiography" of Diane Carey's version of Robert April would be great, too. And Jonathan Archer. And...

I think there's potential for a whole series of faux-autobiographies, here!

If anything, I think Jim Kirk would be more likely to downplay his achievements than embellish them. He's a much more serious, less egotistical man than the stereotypes suggest.

Exactly! Just like his "womanizing ways" have been greatly exaggerated. I wonder why this is...

Exactly. To think Captain Kirk would embellish his achievements is to confuse James T. Kirk with William Shatner.

Cannon says that's not possible. See Star Trek; TMP.

I'm certain I said this before the thread was resurrected, but...

Refugees
To Seek a Newer World
The Hazard of Concealing
Greater Than Death

With Star Trek XII/2 delayed until 2013, a comic series on the way and a videogame planned...

WHERE THE FUCK ARE MY NUTREK NOVELS??:scream:

(don't start reciting why the novels were cancelled again. This is a wish list. Those are my wish. That was my rant.)

I don't know what artillery has to do with it, but I think the suggestion was to present it as an alternative, might-have-been kind of series, a la Myriad Universes.
