Another Hellboy reboot is coming sooner than you think...

I'm in France at the moment and was shocked to see this was actually playing in the cinemas here currently. (Looking at IMDB it seems to have been opening in random countries since late August.)

In a moment of madness I paid real cold hard cash to go see it and my god it's awful. Seriously, you can find better 'Hellboy' fan films on YouTube. Everyone involved in making this garbage should be ashamed.

I just watched it, and I thought it was fine. It doesn't start off well, there's a sequence with Hellboy fighting a giant spider made from real dodgy CGI, but where the movie shines is when it really goes for the creepy, supernatural horror instead of the flashy action.

And while the CG creature effects are really bad, there are some rather good practical effects in it.
Even the new actor grew on me. He doesn't have the personality and charisma that Ron Perlman or David Harbour brought to their versions, but the more low-key performance worked better for this horror movie.

The best part is the female lead, Adeline Rudolph, who is really convincing and likable. It's hard to do a horror story only with Hellboy, as he's a rather stoic character and by nature is more physically able to take care of himself. Rudolph's character, though, is a human BPRD agent on her first field mission, so she kinda brings the personal stakes to the story.

For what it is, it is a good movie, and a rather good representation of what Hellboy comics are actually like, as opposed to the other adaptations.

No. They couldn't get one to buy it. So it's VOD or buy a physical copy, unless you were (like me) in one of the handful of countries that got a very brief cinema release.
Oh, well. Guess I'll wait until it is streaming on one of the servixes I have.
