Another Conspiracy Theory.

People,

Responding to another thread about future enemies for the Federation got me thinking what would be a threatening story arc in a future series, so here goes.

The Federation gets wind of a new, shadowy enemy from outside the galaxy, which prompts them to enter into an alliance with the Dominion, indeed, with all powers in all four quadrants, to combat this threat.

This largely unseen mystery player from outside the galaxy could be responsible for all the unrest in the whole galaxy, in every quadrant, as a prelude to their eventual invasion of the Milky Way, a plan that will take centuries to realize, but they try to accelerate their plans to set the stage for the breakdown of all powers in the galaxy so they can sweep in and rule over all.

And as this story arc progresses, we see this external power, perhaps a universal one, perhaps from even outside our dimension, has coopted some members of the Federation, Dominion, and other powers to sow even more dissension. It's similar to how the Dominion set the Alpha Quadrant powers against one another in their initial campaign to bring order to the area, but on a larger scale.

This power's "grand" motivation: It knows that the Federation, the Dominion, and the Borg all pose the greatest threat to its plans for domination not only in this universe, but in countless other quantum realities. So it plans to wipe out that threat by starting a galactic conflagration that will destroy all sentient life in our galaxy.

Interesting idea. Maybe the real origin of the doomsday machine? Or atleast their handiwork in another galaxy.

The alien symbiotes from TNG's "Conspiracy" are back. They're aware of the Borg & other threats the Federation has yet to take seriously. Threats that are hot on their heels, if they had heels.

They're aware of the "new" Dominion, now that the Jem Hadar have decided to cease hostilities with the Alpha & Beta Quadrants (for now.) The Tholians have detected the threats' presence as they're highly psionic but (considering everyone's actions during The Great war,) the Tholians want to "play their cards close to the chest". The I.S.C., Lyrans & Hydrans are all waiting to see when & how this interesting new threat will behave. The Klingons are beating their war drums, louder than ever. They're feeling backed into a corner like wounded mother lions protecting their cubs & the re-appearance of The Hur'q (however brief) isn't making things any better.

The Tzinkethi, Ferengii, Yrridians, & other minor players are staying put, guarding their own territories, coordinating when necessary but not generously volunteering anything. Even the Spherebuilders are remaining tight-lipped about possible alternative futures. The Q are too busy trying to regain order on their own plane of existence while tolerating in-put pertaining to the Continuum's future, from Picard & Janeway's Q, wife & son. They know trouble's brewing but they're debating not only whether or not to step-in, in the first place, but if they do, exactly how and when.

Perhaps it's The Fury, from the TOS mini-series. An alien race that early Humanity based demons & simillar other-worldly mythology upon.

How about the Q becoming the new regular series enemy?

Then they can do to the Q what they did to the Borg: Dumb them down so they can have another episode of Star Trek next week!

:scream:

You mean like Star Trek: Yuuzhan Vong?

Sorry, but this is really reminiscent of Star Wars' NJO in almost every aspect.

The "Invasion" series of books was great, but I don't know if I'd like to see them on the screen unless they actually were able to bring the books to film. And that would be quite an endevor. I believe the Fury were destroyed at the end of the last one.

Some good ideas!!! How about having the enemy already in control of several nearby galaxies?

And they have already take the small magelanic cloud over.... dun dun duh!

Uh oh! Trouble! Like that idea of surrounding our galaxy! -- RR

I have a great idea for a way to introduce a new enemy, the Federation send out multiple sensor probes towards neighbouring Galaxies and also a number of huge Federation FTL subspace sensor arrays are pointed at neighbouring galaxies which together begin studying them and cataloguing stars etc etc when suddenly for some unknown reason stars within one of the neighbouring galaxies start blinking out one by one, the Federation point all sensor arrays at this galaxy to try and find out whats happening, as weeks pass the stars disappearances begin to accelerate in number and its made clear that within the next few weeks the entire 'Canis Major dwarf galaxy' will blink out of existence (even though of course it will still be seen due to light travelling at the speed of light, the sensor arrays however are able to detect the star disappearances.).
It is believed that the dwarf galaxies proximity to the Milky Way may be what causing the event, The sensor arrays detect a huge cluster of ships leaving the Dwarf galaxy heading towards the milky way, the federation decide to try and communicate with the ships which are 25,000 light years away, they devise a way to communicate in a similar way they did with Voyager in the Delta Quadrant and are successful in sending a message, the ships however suddenly disappear but not before they communicate back a message, the message reads 'the darkness is coming, they cannot be stopped, leave your galaxy or they shall devour you'.
As the message ends the sensor arrays detect a dark cloud heading towards the Milkyway.

Sounds pretty scary and apocalyptic. An interesting idea!

Thanks, I've come up with more.

The shadow beings will look similar to that cloud thing from the program 'Lost'.
http://lost.cubit.net/pics/2x10/ekoVsMonster01.jpg

It turns out these shadow beings come from an alternate dimension, in order to survive they must consume entire star systems and having gained a foothold into the Canis Major dwarf galaxy they turned their attention to the more abundant Milky Way, it will however take them many years to reach the Milky Way but the shadow beings have already sent a scouting party to the Milky Way to determine any threat to their survival.
Its found out that the Shadow beings literally jump from universe to universe devouring galaxies and the dimension they came from was completely wiped out from feeding, its also determined that the cloud heading towards the Milky Way is only the first wave, in order to bring through their entire race they must utilise the super massive black hole at the centre of the Milky Way to puncture a big enough hole into the alternate dimension to 'open the flood gates' so to speak and allow their entire race through to feed.

Luckily for the Federation they figure out their weakness, chronoton radiation is deadly to them, ships and hand weapons are upgraded to cronoton based weapons and the fight begins, they battle with the shadow scouts.
In the finale the Federation, Romulans, Klingons, Dominion, Borg, Cardassians and many more unite to battle with the incoming dark cloud.

Yes, that's exactly what I've been thinking too, ever since reading the Voyager book "The Final Fury" where those hellish creatures also appear. The Fury is a great enemy which could be used in some upcoming series.

I agree with Lynx, The Fury are back. Using the same device from the "Final Fury", the wormhole generator & power collector that sucked the Fury homeworld toward a "point unknown" in time/space due to Torres' tampering with it.

Though part of me is curious about the possible cameo appearance of the creature that experimented with the Enterprise-D ("Nagilum") in its own confusing black void (TNG - "Where Silence Has Lease") & a possible intervention by him/her/it as a result of that races' ongoing observation of humanity's evolution / general ability to deal with change.

Could "Nagilum" have been an early Fury experiment on Starfleet vessels of the TNG-era, pertaining to the Fury's 'fear-projection' technology as depicted in the earlier "Fury" novels?

I always wondered if that creature was a member of the Organians or possibly a faction from the Temporal Cold War, awaiting its' proper moment to act?

Possible re-appearance of the Organians as a result of Janeway's (& by association,) Humanity's inadvertant involvement in the Q Civil War & the temporal SNAFU resulting in Voyager's temporary visit to late 20th / early 21st Century Earth? Are they upset, intimidated, intrigued, or what?

Sounds kinda like an ascended being fight like we have seen in Stargate.

Something like it, but not so much a fight as the Organians & others like Nagilum having decided to finally reveal themselves & walk among the peoples of the 2380's & beyond. Having more of a hands-on supervisor / observational / diplomatic say in things, which no longer requires them to operate on their higher plane, behind a duck-blind.
