So I've heard heaps of praise for this cosmic crossover from a few years back so I finally went through and got all the trades to read it.
I didn't find it that wonderful. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. The only parts of the story I really enjoyed were the Prologue (very epic and nice Scott Kollins art) and the Nova mini. In fact Nova was the only character I found to be interesting at all in the entire story, thanks to his new 'last of his kind with a world mind in his head' premise. That's a cool premise.
I mean, it stars a bunch of Z list characters I've never heard of. I still don't know who Star-Lord is... or Moondragon... or Captain Marvel's daughter... or Drax... or that weird little pixie on Thanos' shoulder.... or the dozen or so Galactus Heralds wandering around.... They're just not that interesting.
I also didn't like how the story progressed, how each character got a mini doing his own thing and they never really hooked up together. It reminded me of Morrison's Seven Soldiers of Victory in a bad way.
And Annihilus never really gelled as an uber villain for me. He barely appears in the entire story.
The art is never very good either. And I don't like the way everyone is realistically drawn in very drab clothing. Where's the larger than life figures and multi-colored spandex?
I did find the bit about Galactus' siblings being released from primordial prison and going after him interesting.
I'm halfway through the first book of the Conquest sequel, and it's more of the same. I still need to buy the last book.
