Lucasfilm Animation is developing a new animated "Star Wars" TV comedy series.
Daytime Emmy and Gemini Award-winner Jennifer Hill ("The Backyardians") will produce with Todd Grimes ("Back at the Barnyard") directing. Brendan Hay ("The Daily Show") will be among the writers and Seth Green and Matthew Senreich, creators and executive producers of "Robot Chicken," will have "creative involvement.
Project marks the second "Star Wars" skein created by Lucasfilm Animation. The first was "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," which premiered in 2008 on the Cartoon Network.

Lucasfilm eyes animated 'Star Wars' TV comedy
No start date or network for the comedy skein have been announced.
We don't care about this announcement. Where is the live action Star Wars TV series we've heard Lucas was working on for next year?

this one: "Untitled Star Wars TV Series" (2011) TV series (in production)

<sighs>

I've seen Lucas' attempts at humor. Emphasis on "attempts." Unless it's a parody with little to no input by Lucas or his company (which it may very well be since they're looking to people like Seth Green), I doubt I'll even give the show a chance. I get embarrassed enough watching the "serious drama" of the Clone Wars.

This is a belated april fools, right?

Because 'comedy' isn't something the prequels or their affiliates have done very well.

On the other hand, the Robot Chicken episodes about Star Wars were hilarious, so.

So the next series will be a comedy act? If it somehow captures the comedy genius exhibited between the battle droids in the Clone Wars animated series, I will be so there.

"That's gold, Jerry! Gold!"

^^ A quick look at the Wikipedia summary suggests no actual battle scenes. How much you wanna bet this show will exercise a similar degree of restraint?

Honestly, this sounds like the best thing to come out of the Star Wars universe in years.

That's probably why I'm not a big Star Wars fan, huh?

Robot Chicken's style of human just doesn't mesh at all with Star Wars (and that's assuming that the OT humor - hey there used to be humor, remember that? - can be miraculously resurrected.)

You don't find the two Robot Chicken Star Wars specials to be even mildly amusing? It's not enough to sustain much more that those two specials, but I've found them pretty amusing, at least.

I found them hilarious myself, and that's why I'm not remotely surprised with news of a comedy in the works.

In addition to parody skits, I think we'll probably see the introduction of new humorous characters similar to the comedic Tag and Blink--two considerably less than heroic Expanded Universe characters that always wound up being in the wrong place in the wrong time during the original trilogy. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if Tag and Blink are in the show themselves.
