Animaniacs Reboot in the Works

I didn't fully understand it as a teenager, but thought it was funny. But as an adult when I found out more about it, it was even funnier!

That's just it -- I didn't think it was funny, just awkward and strange.

I'm not sure it was ever 100% successful but it was bold to try compared to the more strained/crass attempts to make Looney Tunes "relevant" afterwards (Space Jam, Back in Action, etc...)

I liked Back in Action. It wasn't their greatest achievement, but Bugs, Daffy, etc. were certainly more in character than they were in Space Jam, and it was a fun movie in general. Plus I've always liked Joe Dante's movies, so that helped. (I loved it when Brendan Fraser's car turned out to be a Ford Gremlin and Jerry Goldsmith's score dropped in a reprise of his Gremlins theme. That's a classic Carl Stalling-style musical in-joke and a Joe Dante in-joke at the same time.)

You're in Hades now and for eternity/
Hope you're not too choosy 'bout your com-pa-ny!

I hope that they don't screw it up. It's a classic. Might check out Hulu sometime.

Here's to hoping that it includes Good Idea/Bad Idea.

Have you watched Animaniacs recently? There's definitely some gold in there, but there is a lot of chaff to go with every germ of comedy. My wife and I watched a few episodes when it hit Netflix a while back and we were sitting there stone-faced for a solid 20 minutes for most of the episodes.

Hopefully because it's on Hulu, they can get away with the (some what hidden) adult humour they had in the original run.

It's appropriate that they be on a pay service as they've always had "pay-or-play contracts".

I'd love the first episode depicts their new escape from the water-tower (where they've been trapped since 1998) in a way that riffs on Dale Cooper's return from the Black Lodge after 25 years in the Twin Peaks revival.

Nope. I don't have Netflix, so no go.

Just double checked and it's the original. And yes I have, back when it aired.

It's pretty subjective. I laughed at a lot of it and there was some that wasn't so funny. Like any show.

I haven't watched the show since the original run, but I did read an article on either CBR or Io9, and from what I read and the clips they posted, a lot of the adult humor wasn't really hidden all that well.

Even if the new version sucks, at least we'll be getting the original, along with it's spin offs, and Tiny Toons through the deal.

I gave up on Family Guy ages ago, but I did enjoy the first Ted movie, and I'm loving The Orville, so I have kind of mixed feelings on this news.
I think the big question now will be if they try to stick to the style of humor from the original, or if they're going to go for something more McFarlanesque.

I'm taking a wait and see attitude. Just because the guy has worked extensively with McFarlane doesn't mean that he doesn't have a voice of his own. And Family Guy is not Ted is not The Orville if you know what I mean. Obviously he has more than one note to play. I'm sure the guy knows that Yakko is not Peter Griffin.

Why does it even have to be new? Get those folks who are out there that made the series and let them do their thing again with new episodes. Yes, I know some new voice casting and composer picking will be required, but it can be done.
