Angels and Demons: What kind of bomb was it?

I admit I haven't stuck around for the whole movie, but just couldn't keep interested past the first thirty or so minutes.

What kind of bomb was it in this one? I watched a YouTube where they are saying it was an anti-matter bomb.

If that were the case wouldn't such a device be really destructive on contact with the atmosphere?

On a side note, in my few years of soap opera watching, I saw who I thought had to be hands down the worst actor of all time. But then years later he's in Angels & Demons and he was good!

I guess with English as his second language, having to memorize an entire script of garbage dialog and film the whole thing in one day with very few takes wasn't going to make him look very good.

If I remember the movie correctly, it wasn't a very big explosion. Considering that one gram of antimatter would give you an explosion equal to that of Hiroshima, I'm sure there was much less in the container.
Akshually...1 Kilogram of Antimatter and 1 Kilogram of normal matter would produce and explosion of roughly 42 Megatons...

So, 1000th of that is actually about 42 Kilotons or nearly 3 times that of Little Boy (15 Kilotons)!

There was a tiny, tiny bit of antimatter, magnetically suspended in a vacuum. The reason it detonated was that the electromagnetic field holding the antimatter in place ran out of juice. Once it was no longer safely suspended, it touched the casing, it and the matter in the casing annihilated each other, yielding about 5 kt (about 1/3 of Hiroshima) of explosive power.
