Angel...the beginning of the end

Angel's ending was badass.
It is much better then Buffy's good guys beat bad guys ending.

Buffy's ending was perfect for Buffy. Angel's ending was near-perfect for Angel. Structurally I would've liked to have seen the initial third of the final season compressed, as much as I enjoy Spike his initial arc there rode roughshod across too many (largely average) episodes, and to have the Circle of The Black Thorn and Drogyn introduced earlier in the season. Whilst the character notes are dead on in the finale, and those are the really important bits, the plot does seem to come out of nowhere. It's simple enough that it works, but it's perhaps not quite as satisfying as it could've been.

That's why he shoved Fred and Wes together so suddenly - yes, absolutely to give Wes another kick in the balls.

And the audience too. Maybe that's why the show was cancelled. The viewers threatened a class action suit for emotional distress.:p

Actually, the good guys didn't beat the bad guys in Buffy's ending either. The First Evil was just a major pussy demon with delusions of grandeur. Wolfram & Hart just gave Angel=>Buffy=>Spike the amulet so that they could shut him up and prevent them from interfering with the Senior Partners' business. (That's the thing I love about that finale. Although Angel sometimes felt like the lesser child, their big bad got the last laugh on Buffy!)

Since finishing both shows, I've really wanted to go back and rewatch some of the bigger episodes from each series. Tonight I got bored and saw Buffy in the background on the new Alec Baldwin Hulu.com commercial, so I decided to check it out. I watched "Prophecy Girl," the Season 1 finale, and I frickin loved it. I watched both shows in such a short period of time that much of it has blurred together. Oddly enough, that episode could have easily been the finale for the whole series, and it would have worked beautifully. Obviously, I'm glad that didn't happen, but it could have.

^ It was sort intended as possible finale, And as it was mid-season replacement all 12 episode of Season 1 were filmed before anything aired. So if the show hadn't been renewed for a second series that'd have been it

One of the rare series that could be cancelled really early and yet the final episode feels like a good finale. (IMO, Wonderfalls is one of the few other short lived shows to do this.)

Day Break probably qualifies too, although it left the door open for more that never came. They should do a miniseries follow-up to that.
