Spoilers Andor season one

And only one of the eleven existing Star Wars movies has ever been nominated for a Best Picture Oscar, and the one that did didn't even win. I'm cool with things I love not being popular with the hip/"in" crowds in Hollywood.

Twelve!! There are twelve movies!!!

That's my preference too.

Who cares about awards among fans? None of us are industry professionals and benefit financially from these awards.

Yeah, but it would be nice to see some recognition from the wider community once in a blue moon. I hate that our stuff is still "ghettoized". I've seen so many things in genre works that are (IMO) Oscar/Emmy worthy, it just feels like a slap in the face sometimes.

Yeah, but it would be nice to see something people like us enjoy get some wider recognition. It might not impact us personally, but I do like to see stuff I enjoy be successful.
I guess I don't see the appeal.

If it's good it's good.

What does and does not get awards has bugger all to do with being "hip". Indeed it's quite the opposite since the majority of the people that vote on these kinds of things (especially the Oscars) are predominantly crusty old white dudes that prefer "cinema" to movies.

Why else do you think dramas, biopics, movies about Hollywood, or even better: dramatic biopics about Hollywood are always award darlings? Most of these people have never even watched a Star War, nor would they ever care to.
On the odd occasion when a popular genre production does get the nod (read: a non-technical award) it's usually because some article in the industry trades shamed them into it (see: Return of the King's Oscar sweep.) Also, just like the Olympics and legislation; awards get lobbied for, which instantly means it's subject to easy corruption.

So no, I really wouldn't take a mainstream award snub to mean anything more that it's just mainstream awards being predictably mainstream.

From what I've read, there's a LOT of deep seated resentment in a certain quarter of the Hollywood establishment over the continued popularity of Sci-Fi, Fantasy & Superheroes. Scorsese's little tantrum 5 years back is pretty indicative of this mindset, and it's only gotten worse as the "fad" refuses to die (which IMO disqualifies it as a fad since it's been a controlling force at the box office for coming up to half a century!) So yeah, don't expect a lot of votes from Academy members for genre properties until the boomers in their ranks start dying off.
