Spoilers Andor season one

Which makes me wonder if this will solely be the future of the franchise.
It won't. Disney has been doing variety with Star Wars, we've seen it with the anthology movies and now with the Disney+ TV shows. Rogue One was a war movie, Solo looked at the criminal underbelly of the SW universe. The Mandalorian is basically a space western, as was Book of Boba Fett though told from the perspective of an aspiring crime lord. Obi-Wan was basically a lost Samurai in search of purpose, and now Andor exploring the origins of rebellion against fascism from the perspective of the ordinary people.

Disney Star Wars is embracing variety and allowing the franchise to be what it could be rather than following a narrow formula of what it should be. Not all these approaches are going to work for everyone, but each approach is going to work for someone. And the great part for those who don't like one particular approach, in a few months another show will come along providing a new and different perspective on Star Wars mythos, and maybe this will connect with one who wasn't as impressed with the other.

Variety is the spice of life, and this approach will in the long run contribute to the continued longevity of the Star Wars franchise. Indeed, the recent Sequel Trilogy proves that just sticking to the old tired formula won't create any lasting impressions of the fanbase, as indeed here we are, three years after the Sequel Trilogy ended and it has largely faded from the public consciousness.

Yes, this is exactly what I wanted from Star Wars. I was tired of stuff with meaningless (keyword- meaningless) fanservice and the force and everything. Andor is much more grounded and shows the reality of the empire.
I hear you, but the Force is what makes Star Wars special. Without the Force and the Jedi it's just another sci-fi franchise.

I legit don't get the people complaining "Star Wars is ruined" or "I'm never watching Star Wars again." Like, who exactly cares? There's more than enough Star Wars around to satisfy your appetite, no one is under any obligation to watch or enjoy the current iteration. Moaning about it just makes it sound like they just want attention.
Personally I love the grounded story and the cinema quality production values.

I have to wonder if you ever wanted Star Wars in the first place. Or if you simply wanted a well-made science-fiction series from the SYFY Channel. Well, you got it with "Andor". Which makes me wonder if this will solely be the future of the franchise. If so, I just might part ways with the Star Wars franchise. And I still believe "Obi-Wan Kenobi" was the best thing I've seen from Lucasfilm in recent years.
Star Wars is a variety platform. Watch the original and you'll realize it is slower paced at times, focused on Rebels vs. The Empire and such. The Force was only one part of the tapestry. Obi-Wan is great, as is Andor and people can like one, the other or both.

The Force and Vader’s “sorcerer’s ways” were thought just stories by A New Hope. Well, here you go. Plus, this isn’t about the top Jedi and Sith Lords, like Kenobi — which I loved.

Because the show is an absolute bear to produce and neither Luna nor Gilroy wanted to devote the next ten years of their life to it, since each season roughly takes two years all told to finish. So they decided that two seasons would be enough.
But I thought Gilroy wanted to do 5 seasons.
Serkis went foe Caesar at the end. It's a shame he can't swim and hence will be captured and turned into Snoke now. :)

I think it added an extra layer of color to that world but there was so much more to Star Wars than that. Between the look and feel of it, the framing of imperial ships coming into view, the swashbuckler Han Solo, the music, the adventure, the special effects, the story, the fight of the underdog against impossible odds.

The dearly lamented EU focused on aspects of the Star Wars universe which had nothing to do with the Force, Jedi, or Sith and gets placed on a pedestal by many as being more Star Wars than the OT.

The EU was 98% crap and any loon who thinks it is better than the OT has removed themselves from the conversation for all time.

That is just fucking depressing. Fuck it. I've had it.

Then please go. You've brought nothing to the conversation except extremely narrow-minded negativity. Your opinion has been registered and hasn't wavered one bit, despite the staggeringly high quality of the show and the many aspects of it that could be discussed. Stop watching, stop commenting. You'll probably feel better.

Nostalgia is a hell of a filter. Actually, I think it's more of a sunk cost fallacy. People invest so much time and energy in to the EU, fan theories, and memorizing little details that they feel it is too important to let go of. Of course, no one asked them to do that, but there is a bit of an entitlement mentality that goes along with it. Seen it since the PT.

^ ummm does someone need to say it? Most of Star Wars is crap. Let’s not go casting stones. Everyone just live and let live. Enjoy the stuff you like, ignore the rest. You’re not going to get 100% your way, and you might appreciate at least some of the stuff that’s not if you take it on its own terms.

Read this as "most of Star Wars is carp." And I still agree with it!

Shows like this emphasize just how hard the rebellion had to work to topple something as big as the Empire. A rebellion/insurgency is more than a few big splashy battles like Yavin and Endor. Sometimes the way to win is to stab a dude in an alleyway.
