Spoilers Andor season one

The legality of the situation is irrelevant, because the justice system there was corrupt. He had no chance of a fair shake. To allow himself to be taken in would have been as good as a death sentence. The situation would not have existed but for the criminal actions of the corrupt cops. If they'd thought he needed to be arrested, searched, or questioned, they could have done that right there in the brothel or just outside it. But instead they waited until there were no witnesses.
Well as I said I can understand and probably would of done the same in his situation. Though I do wonder if he had the ability to just incapacitate the other? But it was still a murder.

Andor doesn't have to be a master spy or someone who is the best solider or anything. We are talking about ordinary people rising up against the Empire. I think the point with him is he is good enough for the job and part of that isn't because of expertise but simply because he is willing to do things many people would have problems doing. Killing people is a hard thing to do but a necessary thing for the kind of fight they are in. The fact he is willing to do it makes him someone they can count on.

I think the show is going to be about him finding self worth by applying his pragmatic ethics to a cause that is bigger than him or his soul. But it also might come in conflict with his search for his sister. I can see them doing something like having him do a major job or save his sister. He has to choose between being a rebel or a brother and which thing comes first.

Well, three episodes in and so far I can say that Andor looks a lot better then Obi-Wan (I mean that literally, having sets and more extras and generally looking more "real", while Obi-Wan was outright abusing the Mando screen tech), its also dull as dishwater, outside of the flashbacks which are infuriating. its Star Wars, so I'll be watching until the end, but these first three episodes could easily have been cut to two if the flashbacks and the repetitive boring stuff got removed. Hopefully the pace picks up, and interesting things actually start happening.

I honestly don't mind what series looked better. "Babylon 5" had a smaller budget than the Trek shows and looked it. Yet, I still prefer it over any of the shows in the Trek franchise. The declining budget for "Agents of SHIELD" became pretty obvious as the show continued on. Yet, it remains my favorite Marvel TV series. How will "Andor" turn out, as far as storytelling is concerned? I don't know. I guess I'll have to wait and see. But I am a major fan of the "Obi-Wan Kenobi" series.

"you wanna fight these bastards for real"

Your damn right I do.

After a good but slow start episode 3 is unbelievable. The Empire, the rebellion, the whole lot has been so we'll realized and a story and fight that I instantly fell invested in.

Special credit to Shaw and Skarsgard who really know how to make a scene dramatic.
I don't think we've even seen the legit Empire yet.

The cops were not going to beat Andor, or kill him.

There was no immediate threat.

Self defense requires an immediate threat.

They wanted to impound his ship, because they probably get a kick back or a bonus for doing that. They targeted Andor because he laughed at them, and this was their revenge, a legal quagmire and a financial sink hole.

To impound Andor's ship, they needed to take Andor downtown for questioning, and then eventually see him suffer through a day in court, where they can "legally" take his ship, and send him to jail for years, although they didn't know that the ship was stolen, so they couldn't have impounded it anyway. The ship would have been returned to it's legal owner, and Andor would have been sold into slavery.
You have a weird imagination.
(Don't take that as a compliment)

Dirty cops are businessmen.

They make money three ways.

By sending people to jail, by keeping people out of jail, or by keeping people out of jail they're trying to send to jail.

You can't do any of that with a corpse.

However...

Andor laughed at their penises.

If they could have beaten him to death with their sausage batons, they probably would have, but it'd have been bad for business, even if they hadn't been murdered.

We watched all 3 in a binge last night and I really liked it. It felt like a movie to me and, as others have mentioned, Shaw and Skarsgard are always a joy to watch. I also really liked Bix - she played Anathema Device in Good Omens btw.

The people on the crashed ship in the flashbacks were yellow. Is that a SW species or were they showing signs of toxicity of some kind? I *think* the latter, but thought I'd check here just in case. :)

Han said 'see you in Hell' in ESB, which was pretty spicy for the 70s, I think
Maybe it's a cultural thing, but I've never been able to wrap by brain around the idea that Americans consider "hell" to be in any way whatsoever a swear word. Next thing you'll be saying is that "damn" was a spicy word in the 70's too.

Ah! I thought I recognised her from somewhere! The lack of glasses and the antichrist threw me off, apparently. ;)

It could be either at this point. There certainly are at least a few "humans but green/yellow" species in Star Wars, but one of them looked decidedly more "blotchy" than the others, plus there was a visible green gas emission from the ship during the decent, and IIRC some visible traces still coming from the wreck when it was on the ground too. That plus Bee & Maarva's lines about toxicity and that the one crew member to get back up was the one with his respirator mask still on.

One interesting detail was that they all seemed to be crowded around a bank of escape pods, and yet, no pods were seen launching, but one bay we say opened was decidedly empty. The whole thing smacks of sabotage to me.
It does seem like an odd place to have cameras.
Well, that depends on whether they're there for insurance, or "insurance". Nothing like a little blackmail material to keep the corpo-cops from asking for too large a bribe.

I like this show so far. It's the grittier take on Star Wars that I've been waiting for.
Does Syril Karn remind anyone else of a younger Kyle McLachlan?

Kor

Sort of. Kind of reminds me of a more twisted version of Gabe from 'The Office" as well.

Watched the first episode and couldn't face the other two. It was pretty much as I'd expected it to be, sadly.

I liked Rogue One but none of the characters really appealed. Andor absolutely didn't warrant being featured again nor had the makings of a lead character. The show was as dreary as I'd expected and was thoroughly disinteresting. Even the bad guy was dull, if annoying.

Junior loved it and reckons it offsets the lacklustre Kenobi series which he hated, but uninventive as it was, I at least found Kenobi watchable.

This will go on my "Star Wars I might watch eventually for completeness sake" list with around half of Clone Wars, Bad Batch, a chunk of Rebels and the other animations.

I'm coming to the conclusion that after four and a half decades I might have gone off Star Wars. Or maybe it's just not very good any more.
