Spoilers Andor - Season 2

Though the way he Force-snaps that teenage kid's neck on Jabiim in an attempt to draw Obi-Wan out into the open is just plain effective. Disney Star Wars might sometimes go overboard making Vader look like Space Hitler in a black helmet, but moments like that scene on Jabiim work.
Not saying there are not moments were the brutality isn't appropriate or fits the story being told. I agree, that moment works well. Him burning Obi-Wan makes sense.

But, then there's the comics of him just slaughtering everyone, matter what. I see calls for an R rated Vader film of him just being a Jason Vorhees-esque figure of murder death kill because it's "cool ". Rogue One hallway scene is so tonally out of place but gets applause because "cool."

I don't know. I'm sure I'm sounding like a wet blanket over violence in my Star Wars franchise but it goes too far in my opinion for the sake of being cool and violent. It's adolescent to me.

That would have been a great little scene and nod to the future Death Star II. I think you're right. considering the first Death Star took something like 20 years to complete and with all the delays getting it working they had probably started work on the second one in the hope that the successful completion of the first (prototype?) would carry what it learned over to the second Death star.

There have been a few other suggestions that the Empire was interested in having more than one Death Star at a time. The early RotJ concepts with two of them under construction in orbit of the Imperial capital that wasn’t yet Coruscant, for instance. I remember the ANH choose-your-own adventure book had a bad ending that mentioned that after you failed, the Empire built two more Death Stars to roam the galaxy putting the fear of Palpatine into everyone.

If Krennic, Vader, etc. actually legit think that Dedra is a Rebel spy, why aren't they torturing her for info like where the Rebel base is? Vader especially after a few hours of torturing her would probably realize through the Force that she doesn't actually know anything and is only guilty of being a moron, not a spy.
I don’t think Krennic believed she was a spy but it provided a great excuse to send her to prison the rest of her life. He was mostly angry that her obsession with finding Axis exposed the Death Star to the rebellion and was a threat to his plans.

Luke is the one who was trying to sign up for the Imperial Academy and while his Tatooine life wasn't great, it was nowhere near as bad as Han's. There are claims he was always planning to defect (per deleted scenes etc) but I find that odd--rather than go to the Empire and then defect to the Rebels, why not try to find the Rebels directly first?

That goes all the way back to WEG assuming the Academy he mentions has to be the Imperial Academy, and not some kind of civilian school.

Considering the sheer amount of stuff we have now BBY, there is now a dirth of stuff between ABY 1-10 up to Mando ( i know.. movies) but we really don't know much about what happened.

I’d assume that any official institution at that time was controlled by the Empire since they control everything. But like a lot of Institutions it probably existed long before the Empire and actually taught you to be a better pilot. So a lot of people went, learned what they needed to learn while tolerating any Imperial propaganda, and bailed upon graduation.

... or jumped ship.... :shifty:

Besides interrupting the flow, the Luke and Biggs scenes on Tatooine are terrible scenes, rightfully cut, but still intriguing.

I don’t think it was that, more that he realized he was wrong about everything. He saw himself as a doctor fighting an infection, the manifesto made him realize he was the disease.
That's kind of what I meant. Not that he converted him to the Rebel cause or anything, just that he sees Nemik's thesis regarding the nature of rebellion to be true. Or rather as he might see it; chaos is inevitable, and any attempt at imposing order is doomed to crumble. In other words; his life's work has been futile.

The comics quite thoroughly cover most of what the OT core cast got up to in that period; only recently having caught up to Jakku.

In terms of live action and animation; it's a little tricky to set a story in that period. I mean sure, you can use a civil war as the backdrop to tell almost any story you want in a similar way the Clone Wars show used that conflict mostly as a backdrop, but the scope of the OT era is a little more limiting.

For one thing it's asymmetrical warfare, meaning (aside from the mid-rim advance, followed shortly by the mid-rim panicked retreat) there aren't going to be a lot of large scale battles. The vast majority of the action is either going to be small scale commando raids, infiltrations, heists, sabotages, or they're going to be the major battles we already saw in the movies. For another, there's a distinct shortage of Jedi to tell stories with, and most of them are either ring-fenced by Filloni, or awaiting their third video game entry. That cuts out a massive chunk of potential storytelling.

Not to say it's impossible of course, just tricky.

Mark Hamill himself seems to be under the impression that Luke wanted to go to the Imperial Academy: https://gizmodo.com/mark-hamill-dis...izmodo.com&utm_medium=link&utm_campaign=share

“There a couple of things that are good for the character—number one, he is ridiculed roundly by his peers. So he’s not particularly cool or popular,” Hamill joked. “And then I bump into Biggs Darklighter, played by Garrick Hagon, and I go ‘Wow!’ You can see we’re good friends. He’s dressed in an Imperial uniform and I’m going, ‘Wow! That’s so great! I can’t wait until I can get off the dump of a planet and join with you.’

“The only reason that is interesting to me is that Luke has no political persuasion,” Hamill continued. “He thinks it’s great he is in the Empire! Luke wants to be in the Empire if it will get him off the farm! So he is completely pure in that he is not politically motivated in any way, shape, or form.”

Be nice to see an actual spy series in the 1-4 ABY with Kleya Her in the hosipital was the best episode in Andor.
Gilroy's burnt out on Star Wars so he wouldn't be involved. Without him a new Star Wars spy show probably would be just multiple episodes of the Section 31 movie which I was fine with but which was so unpopular that I doubt it'd last long (keep in mind the Acolyte got cancelled and it wasn't even that bad).

The wild west of streaming days are over. I'm not sure if Ahsoka will last past the 2nd season. SW seems to be refocusing on movies with Starfighter (although we'll see if that actually gets finished)

See two posts upthread. :)

The crazy part is both canon and Legends material (up to as recently as Star Wars Outlaws) depict Jabba's palace as literally right next door to Luke's farm. Luke probably could've found a way offworld if he signed up with Jabba, although we have no idea what Uncle Owen would think about that and Beru probably would have died from shock. And I'm guessing even Luke had enough morality to not go that far (yes he was fine with signing up with the Empire but they at least tried to hide or whitewash their atrocities while the Hutt Cartel doesn't even bother)

Then again it's hard to know how seriously to take these other canonical depictions of Tatooine as ANH clearly indicates by emotional reactions etc. that Luke hasn't been in Mos Eisley much and hasn't been in their cantina at all, yet Outlaws depicts it as a relatively short speeder drive away from his farm. (I have other problems with Outlaws such as Docking Bay 94 being literally either the only or 1 of 2 docking bays in Mos Eisley which is nonsensical, ironically the Legends depiction of Mos Eisley in Star Wars Galaxies did a more accurate job of portraying it as a realistic spaceport)

For me, it depends on the number or extent of flaws. And I believe "Andor" has enough flaws for me NOT to regard it as a masterpiece or a big favorite of mine.
It was good but Luthen's character is problematic, especially that scene where he and kid Kleya blow up a patrol on Naboo that near as we can tell wasn't committing any atrocities at that time. Cassian then claims that the rebellion wouldn't exist without Luthen and his methods, i.e. terrorism is needed for protest which is a dangerous claim to make.

Strangely enough before Andor the Alliance was shown as different from Saw's Partisans as engaging when necessary but trying to avoid anything gratuitous (like setting up Ghorman which Luthen had a role indirectly). Andor made Saw into a drug addicted nutjob, replaced him with Luthen and basically undid the whole original argument between Saw and Mothma by replacing Saw with Luthen and then giving Luthen a sympathetic angle.

Star Wars always shows people (Grand Inquisitor, Partagaz, etc.) killing themselves before Vader tortures them, and we do see in the Inquisitors that Vader can torture Jedi into becoming dark side fanatics, but then in ANH we see that Leia is physically well enough to take part in a firefight, open a way to the garbage chute, and is mentally coherent. It's not really consistent.

I suppose actually showing a Vader torture scene where the victim is a bloody, mutilated mess screaming "There are five lights" or whatever might go too far but they already crossed the line with the attempted r--- so I'm not sure why showing what Vader does to people would suddenly be too much.
My impression (which may be wrong) is that the more attuned your mind is to the Force, the more easily your mind can slip into the Dark Side if you don’t actively resist it. So Han’s not Force-sensitive, and doesn’t go Dark; Leia has Force potential but doesn’t know it, so she hasn’t learned enough to be “able” to go Dark (and nobody has more reason to than her!); but Luke has Jedi training by the end, so turning is a real possibility; and the Inquisitors, being former actual fully-trained Jedi, were much more susceptible under the right kind of pressure.
