And the Next Cancelled Show is...

No, within 495 is pretty much Boston.

Sudbury is a wealthy suburb fairly far outside the city (outside the 95, though not the 495). Nobody speaks with a Bostonian accent over there (with the exception of maybe a couple quirks of pronunciation at best).

No one in Boston really speaks with a Boston accent either, which is my point. We can do over the top Boston accents and that's fine and no one boycotts or bitches about it. But after 30+ years someone somehow said Apu was over the top and offensive and then he just needs to disappear? So stupid.

To me the one issue with Apu that made sense to me is that Apu was a problem because for along time he was the only Indian representation on tv which to me is very much a truth but to me the issue isn't really that Apu existed but you didn't have other Indian characters on tv to sort of present a bigger range of representation. This though isn't the fault of Apu or The Simpsons but tv in general for not having more indian characters on tv at the time so to blame The Simpsons is the wrong target.

That's wicked smaht. Let's go get a frappe.

Yes, I'm all for more of everyone kind of person of TV. The solution isn't to just get rid of the only Indian character on USA TV.

I'll preface this by saying I'm not about to subscribe to every news source on the internet, so I can't cite sources. That said:

What frustrates me the most is that Indian and Asian actors have been quoted as saying they wouldn't mind if Apu continues to appear, but only if voiced by an Indian actor, in episodes written by Indian writers. Where does it stop?

To me it's to late to change Apu's voice if your going to use him. It wouldn't sound the same because it's been the same guy for 3 decades. Also who hell are these people to dictate terms for a character they didn't invent. They need to wake up and realize that writers have to be able to write for multiple characters across race and gender unless you want a show having nothing but white men. I don't think they understand what they heck they are talking about. This isn't baseball were each character gets a personal writer and when you write a script you have each person writing the dialogue for just one character. That would be impossible and very impossible to do in away that would make good storytelling.

Are you super old?

Black Face is bad, unless you're the Canadian Prime Minister.

Voice acting isn't black face. Otherwise you got to say any person who ever writes dialogue for someone who isn't white is doing black face and anyone who drawls cartoons and makes a character who isn't white is also doing black face.

Black voice?

Which is very different. Black people have been historically discriminated against for centuries going back to slavery. Only people you can argue who have had it worst would be Native American Indians when being screwed over by our country. Not to mention it was a racism that was part of acceptable society before you even had the Civil Rights movement.

The 80's were not exactly perfect but even then we as a society had already moved on from the those ministerial shows you would see back in day with things like Amos and Andy. I admit Apu didn't exactly start off with the greatest intent but they soon gave the character depth and respect and was not just a one note joke. He was just as important as any other character that wasn't part of the Simpson family.

This all started in 2017.

I though Hank quit last year, which is why I was so surprised to see that they were still using Manjula, if Apu was being written out.

I saw the movie. It's actually the instigating factor in the Apu backlash that led to the entire conflict. Up until then Apu was just like any of the other characters. Based on some broad 80's sterotypes that still sort of work on that level but have all undergone some modern upkeeping to fit in with changes in a more modern understanding of cultures.. Apu was no different than say Willie being a Scottish cliché or Cletus being a redneck cliché etc.

Also Hank hasn't quit. He still does many of the voices. He simply has stopped doing Apu. To be honest the show is long past it's prime and should go ahead and end anyways so I great deal of this whole issue feels kind of pointless. The real major concern with Apu as far as I can see was him being the single representation of a entire race is slowly changing and even Apu had evolved over the years. It really does feel to me like someone trying to make some money of a modern desire for more political correctness. Especially when it's coming from a comedian who himself as no doubt used some sterotypes in his act to get laughs.

I use an app called "Next Episode" to keep track of shows my wife and I are interested in and I got a notification that Big Little Lies is not coming back for a 3rd season. I did a quick google search but didn't come up with any kind of official announcement. Does anyone know what's going on? I don't watch it, but I think my wife will be quite disappointed.

I hadn't heard anything, but I did find it curious that when Season 2 was released on DVD, HBO also released a set that had both seasons collected together; usually they don't do that until a show ends, or is at least far enough along to make a multi-season set worthwhile (e.g. Game of Thrones, which had box sets for seasons 1-6, 1-7, and finally the complete series).

Also keep in mind that Big Little Lies was originally intended to be just a mini-series because it covered the entirety of the book (hence all of their Emmy wins in that category instead of drama series). The second season happened because of the huge response to the second season and Meryl Streep wanting to do the second season.

Judge Judy is ending!

No, not because the lunatic Bloomberg supporter dropped dead, but because she will launch a new show called 'Judy Justice'.

Sadly none of that is a joke.

How will this new show be different than the other I wonder? I mean it's still going to be her in robes talking smack to people who don't shape up I would imagine. She must have more controlling interest or something meaning more money I suspect.

In the last 25 years she has made 650 million dollars.
At what point does a 77 year old not need more money?

Found this article, sounds like CBS and here had some issues with the syndication sales of her show. So next year will be the last, then a break (probably a contract thing) then the 'new' Judy Justice.
