And the Next Cancelled Show is...

The young viewers would be pissed off because a straight cis man is playing a trans.

I'm astonished at how few people understand the danger of this type of thinking. "Only trans can play trans" "Only gay can play gay" sounds great, until someone counters with "Trans can only play trans" and "Gay can only play gay". Then the industry comes up with several years worth of no gay or trans characters, and those actors find themselves with nothing to do. While their inevitable complaint is actually viable, they can't really prove discrimination because it could be argued that if they want gay and trans characters for them to play, they'll just have to write them themselves, as the writers already getting work in the industry are too busy writing straight, cis characters to bother with making characters gay or trans just so those actors can get work. It's a very slippery slope.

I agree. When TV didn't have gay or trans characters then how do you get them on TV when there are no open gay / trans people acting because it's not a thing. It's a terrible way of thinking. Gay people play straight people all the time, look at How I Met Your Mother. Which would be a huge syndication hit if they didn't screw up the finale season.

A year or two ago Darren Criss from Glee said he would no longer play gay characters. Like what the fuck? It's ACTING. You are playing something you aren't. If you are just being you, how is that acting?

I'll be glad when there are more queer people on TV shows who are also queer in real life, but just having them on TV, even if they are played by a straight peep, is amazing.

If their story is being told by a strong actor/actress, I'm confused why they wouldn't want it out there.

I was going to come here and say that after my diner.

I wish they would bring back L&O Mothership. Also no love for Doctor Who, the actual longest running prime time show. (I think)

It gets worse. Hank Azaria said recently that he will no longer voice Apu on The Simpsons, because Asian actors don't want a white actor playing, or voicing, an Asian character. While I'm all for not casting John Wayne as Genghis Khan, voice acting is voice acting. If the white actor does it well, and the non-white doesn't, why cast the non-white in the role? in fact, they don't want Apu in episodes not written by Asian witers. This could potentially completely remove the character from the show, which would be to Asian actors' and characters' detriment. Apu is a positive role model, after all.

And then there's the whole thing I addressed with gay/trans characters and actors. It's too easy to disenfranchise them completely by just not writing such characters. Do they actually think there are enough Asian actors, writers, directors, producers, studio heads, etc. in Western filmmaking to excise the Whites from the process?

It's because he is playing an Indian and making them look bad... Like he's a hard working guy with a family. I never say an issue. But how many females voice male characters, including Bart? Is that not allowed now? Or how about The Simpsons stereotypes everyone, need to get rid of the cop for being fat and lazy.

If people had some new issue with Apu then we can talk about writing him differently, but just no voicing him is insane.

Being pissed because they white washed the Avatar movie (we should never talk about) is one thing, but VOICE ACTING is a whole new level of stupid.

And at the same time this was going on there was a Super Bowl car commercial where a bunch of actors from Boston did an over the top Boston accent. So that's allowed too, but we must draw the line at Apu?

The Apu thing never made sense. He started off as a kind of one note cliché joke but he became well rounded as far as you can become well rounded in a sitcom where you sort of have to maintain the status quo all the time. Also the only people they ever sort of mocked Apu was Homer and Homer is basically the dumbest guy on the show which is why they always used Homer in that way. He says something stupid and we laugh because we know Homer is such a idiot. A idiot usually with a good heart but completely stupid.

Chris Evans may have been born in Boston, but he grew up in Sudbury, MA, which is hardly the same. I don't think he gets a pass on the accent.

A funny piece of hypocrisy comes from those who cried about Altered Carbon whitewashing Asian culture. But now that season two has a black lead portraying Takeshi Kovacs, the same people who were outraged are suddenly silent -- or, weirdly enough, praising it -- because they never gave a damn about Asian culture in the first place. It's all virtue signaling.

At least they got the Magnum crossover in.

Producer Peter Lenkov said on Twitter that viewers can still count on seeing the H50 characters pop up on Magnum P.I. I am a little disappointed that H50 won't match the original in number of seasons but understand the reasons for stopping - just kind of wish they had made the announcement earlier to give fans more time to absorb the news. Also he brought up a little bit about the word "aloha" which makes me wonder if we could see this incarnation (the reboot) team back together again in the future.

reading from the tweet linked above I was a further reference which might explain the sudden cancellation. O'loughlin and Caan's contracts were up after this season but the former isn't able to continue as the result of onset back injury suffered a few years back. O'loughlin was going to leave a couple of years back due to the back problems but some treatments allowed him to carry out but it's now reached the end of the road.

No, within 495 is pretty much Boston. But with Apu the people complaining said it was because the voice was over the top. I didn't think it was bad, but whatever. Being from Western Mass the car commercial was the most over the top thing. It's fine 'making fun' of a Boston accent but not a cartoon Indian? You can't have it both ways.

I have a pin that says "Just because you are offended, doesn't make you right".
