That sounds like how every Netflix movie I have watched was formed.
Many of the Netflix movies have been good. Like "Gerrald's Game" "Bright" That Stephen King movie about the old redneck guy who has his son kill his wife and his mom and is haunted by it. I think it was called "1922" but not sure. "Poka King" with Jack Black.

It wasn't the greatest thing ever but the universe was a nice alternate look at our world and I thought it had some charm in a 90's action movie kind of way. It seems to be the old buddy cop movie concept isn't something you don't see much of anymore. They had more or less went the way of the old rom-com's.

About fucking time! Maybe this will help the merger effort finally get done. He seemed to be profoundly opposed to it.
That's debatable. I've been disappointed with most of them and only been impressed by a select few. The thing is, many of them seem to be great ideas with poor execution.
My thoughts exactly. Most of the Netflix original movies that I've seen have been mediocre -- films with an interesting premise but are poorly executed: predictable plots, immature writing, or are annoyingly over-directed.
i couldn't even finish "Bright;" I thought it was horrible.
Netflix has a good track record with making their own TV shows, but when it comes to house brand movies, they're basically like Blockbuster or Hollywood Video. They want as much quantity out there as they can so they can tout variety and sheer numbers. It might also be good to look at what movies they actually made themselves (Bright) versus buying from someplace else (Extinction).
Yeah, agreed. It's as if they get the bottom pick of the litter and then greenlight anything they can get their hands on.
And yeah, I didn't finish Bright either. Again, it was the execution that ironically in the end felt so much like everything else out there.
Edit: Oh and my favourite surprise on the service has been Okja. Good acting and an interesting story. There are others too that I'm forgetting, but ironically the Oscar contender Mudbound was another I was ultimately disappointed in.
I don't really feel like that's the case. There are a few standouts and favourites such as Lost in Space, Stranger Things, Narcos, and The Crown, but most of the ones I've seen or tried watching have felt lackluster. There are just as many if not more terrible series on Netflix than there are good.

I still haven't gotten to Bright, because I was largely put off by so many poor reviews.
The only stand out Netflix film for me is Beasts of No Nation, although I'm just reading now that it was only distributed by Netflix and not produced from the ground up by them (that was Red Crown), so I guess that doesn't count.

Yeah, the one thing I find annoying is how Netflix will claim something as Original. The problem with that is that typically, there are two types of originals: The productions made for them, and the ones where Netflix has the digital rights but have appeared elsewhere which happens a lot for things from different countries, but to someone browsing Netflix, there is no distinction between those two.
Agreed. While I can't speak as to the quality of their movies, they have done a fantastic job (IMO) with Daredevil, Punisher and Orange is New Black. Looking forward to seeing some of their other Marvel series.
Actually, make that 3 different distinctions for Originals, the third being when they takeover a production to keep it alive.
Now that ASP is officially the biggest deal in the TVosphere, I'm hoping for more Gilmores.
