And now..THE PRESIDENT!

Many Presidents, either of the Earth or of the United States (or another Earth leader as well) have had some pretty bleak moments in scifi TV shows or movies...

Poor Morgan Freeman. He's the president of the united states when we get hit by an asteroid. Then you have the unseen President in the DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL remake, and all the crap in that movie.

Which President, even though they faced the end of the world, stayed inspirational as presented in the movie. Who, even in the face of death, you would still have voted for him the following November 2nd, even if only two-thousand people survived Armeggedon?

Rob

Bill Pullman as Thomas Whitmore in Independence Day...he didn't just make speeches, he lead the freaking attack against the alien invaders!

And he never faced Armageddon, but I'd vote for Jed Bartlett in a heartbeat!

I purposely did not mention Pullman to see if some one (kudos to you) would. He is my pick too. I just watched ID4 (and it looked great on Bluray) and that pep talk he gave before they launched the attack is, IMO, the best one ever given by a movie president!!!

PULLMAN 2012!!!

And it doesn't hurt that we get President Roselyn as his wife too!!

I liked the President in The Rock / Armageddon, I'd vote for him.

Pullman's ID4 president was pretty badass.

Palmer from 24 (which is pretty sci-fi/fantasy at times) was epic.

All those presidents on 24 must be doing something right, because no matter how often the United States gets attacked by terrorists and people lose their lives by the thousands on a regular basis, everything is normal with no martial law, no rioting, no militias, nothing! Hell, a nuke can go off in LA and people will be downtown shopping a few hours later! :)

Tricia O'Neil in B5's "In the Beginning" was wonderful even though we didn't see much of her. She called for volunteers for the Battle of the Line to buy time for transports to escape Earth when the Minbari were advancing.

Jack Nicholson in MARS ATTACKS!

"The American people still have 2 out of 3 branches of the government working for them and that ain't bad!"

SPOILER AHEAD

Except, well, he doesn't survive the movie.

The best president IMO. Too bad it's only fiction...

OH wait.. Great that it's just fiction or we would have to face the damn spaceinvaders too lol

Kevin Martindale in Dale Brown's novels (space planes, robot bombers, rail guns, tehy're sci-fi) and certainly not Thomas Thorn his predecessor, who got America nuked in the American Holocaust.

President Whitmore gets credit because he would have volunteered himself and sent the Minbari packing.

i agree..BAB5s presidents were interesting brew weren't they?

As much as I love Independence Day, I've always hated Thomas Whitmore. Arrogant asshole. But I do give him major kudos for leading the air strike against the aliens.

Of science fiction films, Morgan Freeman's president is my favorite. Outside of science fiction, the obvious answer is Jed Bartlett.

"It's easy to find something worth dying for. Does President Whitmore have anything worth living for?" Sorry, couldn't resist.

Laura Roslin apparently...
(couldn't resist either)

George W Bush coped fairly well in Doctor Who: Death Comes to Time... though his involvement was limited to commenting 'What is this, Plan Arsehole from Outer Space?' before letting the Brigadier deal with it.

Whitmore: Yeah. My daughter. (shoots alien)

I wouldn't want to be the alien who got in President James Marshall's (Air Force One) way, either. :)
