Ancient Jewish Relic - What Was It's Original Intent?

The Ark of the Covenant is no longer on Earth it reside safely somewhere in our solar system. The Ark of the Covenant is really about the Covenant between humans and Creation to develop vessels that carry the seed of life into the Universe.

The Ark is the embodiment of the female that man must chase around regardless of where she goes to try and get pregnant.

But the man can't get his hands on her tiny pet cat because he has such small hands?

The Bible describes the Ark of the Covenant in such detail - including use of materials - that, with enough resources, it could be reconstructed with great accuracy. So ... I've no doubt that it did, in fact, exist. According to the Second Book of Maccabees the prophet Jeremiah had a vision informing him to have the Ark sealed in a cave on Mount Nebo, in Jordon. Upon attempting to retrieve it, his Men couldn't locate the spot, so Jeremiah declared it God's will. Not all Judeo-Christian sects accept this book as what might be deemed "canon," but it would be awesome if the Ark were discovered there. And if it were discovered, whether in Jordon, or Ethiopia, or wherever else ... I shudder to think what effect it might have in the Middle East, with regards to zealot extremism.

It's probably best that the Ark's location remain a mystery. There's an Ethiopian shrine that claims to possess the Ark, but none but the highest clerics can eyeball it and outsiders aren't allowed to enter the shrine. There are also tales of the Templars having discovered and secreted it away ... everyone wants a piece of the Ark's legacy, apparently. Personally, I believe the Babylonians dismantled and/or repurposed the Ark, when the Assyrian empire made captives of Judah. Hopefully, with accompanying swirls of fire and brimstone and face melt associated with that ... as seen in the movie Raiders!
The Ark was hidden by command of King Josiah, who was aware of the prophecies of the impending destruction. Several other vessels of the temple, including the High Priest's Breastplate were hidden by him as well. Kings II, don't know the chapter.
Maccabees II is not considered "Canon" in Jewish texts.
Regardless of its electrical properties, the Ark was all-powerful as an iconic symbol. I know that sounds corny, but it's true. It's why the Jews took it with them to battle; it's why their enemies wanted it for themselves. Some part of my hopes that it does end up being discovered in my lifetime, because I know it would be very inspiring. Very reaffirming of my own faith, like the Tel Dan Stela, or even the Pilate stone, for that matter.
According to lore, there were two arks; one to contain the broken Tablets of Law, and the "primary" which contained the intact "Second Tablets". The one with the broken Tablets was taken out during battle as a symbol of inspiration and for Divine assistance.
The other always remained in the Temple and was only viewed by the High Priest during the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur) services, described in Leviticus.

It still melts Nazis, right?
...and would have done so, presumably, had Indiana Jones never shown up at all - in essence, he merely serves to find it for them. The question then is who would have known its whereabouts to recover it from the island. Likely, it would have remained in the possession of the Nazis but I expect they wouldn't dare use it again. At the end of WW2, one of the Allied powers would have seized it, assuming that the Nazis not already destroyed it to put it out of reach.

Of course, all of the above is as fictional as the story about the relic.

The thing about the Nazis in RAIDERS of the LOST ARK is that they're really not necessary to the story, at all ...

Dr. René Belloq was only using the Nazis to help him locate and obtain the Ark of the Covenent, as surely as they were using him. But the evil the Nazis represent did sort of act as a more potent counterpoise to the godliness of the Ark, than just having Belloq scheming to exploit it for personal gain. That I'll admit ...

They provide motivation. The Nazis are why Indy goes after the Arc, right? Otherwise he'd be teaching his class.
Absolutely.

Plus, the idea that Nazis had an interest in the occult has a history in popular fiction. This was exploited to enhance the pulpy atmosphere of the story by grounding the premise in modern, fringe myth, and it provided a reason for selecting the Nazis in particular as the villains.
