Hello, all (at least, those who haven't put me on "ignore"...lol)

I have been a not so good boy. I came to this board to discuss one of my loves: that being Star Trek in all its forms....from The Cage up through Star Trek Into Darkness, and beyond, with whatever the future holds.

During that time, I have probably offended a good portion of the membership, and staff here with my rather "anti-fan" views, often as a kneejerk reaction to opinions that came across almost as dictatorial and elitist to me. But I am not here to recriminate or equivocate.

I have also, in the past, been a rather insensitive asshole when it came to certain real-world social issues....perhaps most notably on things like homosexuality. I am not homosexual, and I have only come so far as to be tolerant....not really acceptant. But to be tolerant also means being able to not say anything unkind or contrarian...and I am guilty of saying things that qualified as both...and perhaps worse, thus betraying my stance of tolerance. I'd like to think I've come a long way, and have tried to be a bit more productive in such discussions.

In any case, I am writing this as an apology to each and every member and staffer of this forum. To the fans, I apologize for being so brash in my anti-fan views. I know not all fans are alike. Most fans actually are quite reasonable when it comes to certain issues regarding fan behavior, and overvalued opinions, and the like. To those who advocate homosexuality, bisexuality, transgenders, etc., I apologize for my insensitivity in the past. To everyone here, I will do my best to

A: Bite my tongue when it comes to matters of fandom where one camp tries to impose its view on another camp.

B: To always ensure that it is known that when I offer an opinion about an aspect of Star Trek, Star Wars, BSG, or what have you, it is always just an opinion....and quite often probably one to be taken with a grain of salt....or perhaps the whole damned shaker. :)

C: To carefully read any discussion regarding certain social issues if I am feeling tempted to somehow join such discussion....and that I will not engage in insensitive talk. I will try to be conscious of everyone's feelings, and adopt my usual centrist view that I take with sci-fi matters.

For what it's worth to any and all who might read this: I am truly sorry. I will try to do better in the future.

Respectfully to all,
Martok2112

I have no idea who you are or why you're apologising

Which makes me think I must be missing all the juicy threads

Anyway

I watched in and out today

I got all goose bumpy when they all stood up at the end and said....."I'm gay"

I almost shouted it myself

What is in and out?

Other than being the three words my girlfriend says just before sex (where you see food convo, I see sex convo) it's a slightly rubbish 1997 film starring Kevin Kline, Tom Selleck and Matt Dillon (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_&_Out)

At the end, the small town school he works at is pushing him to resign because they don't think it's appropriate for him to be influencing young minds and then there's a whole I'm Spartacus thing where some pupils stand up and say....I'm gay...then his family say it, then the local hairdresser, then the post man, then basically everyone there stands up and says it etc

It warmed the cockles of my heart

It's always a good thing to try for more growth and more self-awareness. Best of luck with it martok2112!

The cover is very familiar, I may almost have decided to rent it a hundred times in the 90s, but I've probably seen everything from that era, especially after weekly rentals all started selling for a dollar on Tuesdays.

It's sad that I spent all that time 20 years ago watching all those movies and now remember nothing.

Kevin Cline is a young Steve Martin, which doesn't men anything any more since they're both old as dirt, or a massively less intense Campbell Scott.

No, I didn't find a Fish called Wanda funny at all.

I've heard of that movie, but have never seen it. As Kevin Klein is a favorite actor to me, I'll have to check it out.

Lol...that's ok, hux. I ain't goin' for fame or infamy. :). I am but one small voice among the thousands that inhabit this forum.....but sometimes, one small voice is all it takes to start annoyng others. :)

Ahhhhhhh it means SO MUCH to say your sorry...... Its the hardest thing to do (Admitting your wrong) but it makes you look good and feel good!!!!

God bless you martok2112 :)

Public apologies on a forum for bad netiquette are extremely rare. In all my years on the internet, I doubt I've read more than one or two other posts like this. My hat's off to you. If only others would be so humble. On my part, I'll admit I've come across as abrasive sometimes too, that it's not just the fault of the other guy, and I apologize for that.

Indeed they are! Martok2112, I don't think I've even seen you here before, but kudos for the self-awareness and taking responsibility for the inappropriate things you have apparently said.

I never apologize for anything. I'm sorry, but that's just the way I am.

martok2112, I haven't read any of your posts. I am, however, willing to forgive whatever you said. Being a gay man isn't easy where I live, due to intolerance. I applaud personal growth wherever I find it.

It appears you have learned a valuable lesson. You have the right to your views, I respect them... even when I disagree. That you are now willing to respect the right of others to their views, speaks much good to your character. Best wishes, sir. :techman:

That sounds like my grandmother, who died a lonely, grumpy old woman. Don't be her.

BigJake wins the prize on this one. ;)

J. is pulling our legs just a little. ;)

Yep. :D

Shouldn't this be in TNZ? I don't think many people are familiar with the OP or what he/she has said in the past. I often find blanket public apologies empty and insincere, and likely a cry for attention. Moving on ...

I think martok2112 does most of their posting on the main board so it makes sense here.

Gryffindorian, I don't blame you at all for your skepticism and cynicism.

If it helps, despite my ranking in post counts here, I am still unfamiliar with where this kind of post should've went....this, as Big Jake pointed out, seemed to make the most sense....it did to me.

Thank you for your honesty. I apologize again, if my apology offended you. But allow me to say that more than enough folk here have seen the insensitive posts I've made in the past, and I don't want to bear the thought of any acrimony either toward or from anyone. My apology is sincere, and the only thing I can hope for is forgiveness. I cannot expect it. That would be presumptuous. I am appreciative and thankful to those who do know, or understand why I needed to clear the air and get this weight off my shoulders. :)

Big Jake, I'm not quite sure what you meant by "their posting", unless you're referring to the posts I have apologized for. :)
