An OMG Moment

How often do you have an "Oh, my gosh/God!" moment? When you realize or discover something you didn't know or know about before, or when something amazing or alarming happens before your eyes, or when you see something awesome or frightening, you have an OMG moment.

Just now, I just learned something about Rachel Maddow. I don't usually watch network news. But when I googled her name, I realized she was from Castro Valley, CA, a small town in the Bay Area close to where I live. Her father is/was Bob Maddow, a former attorney who worked for EBMUD, my current employer. I thought, ""How cool is that?"

What's your most recent OMG moment?

I suppose the closest I've had for a while was when I commented on a link on Tom Wood's (a non-fiction author who I love to read) Facebook page and the man himself responded back.

When I watched the premier episode of the Batman TV series back in 1966, and realized that these two cars were one and the same vehicle.

I work with Chris Hemsworth's cousin. I found out when i told her that i was going to see Star Trek, my workmate said that her cousin had a part in the film but didn't really know what role he was playing. So i asked what his name was , thinking it was going to be an extra and low and behold it was Chris Hemsworth. I lost my shit.

^ i had a similar experience. i used to work in a newsagent and i was pally with one guy and he came in one day and says to me, 'oh, have you seen my cousin's movie?'

i was like, 'uh, who's your cousin? what movie?'

"Shaun of the Dead," he says. "My cousin's Simon Pegg."

that was pretty cool.

(and i told him Simon was about the best thing in Star Trek, but the rest was shite.)

I tend to go with "Oh Shit!" rather than "OMG". Can't think of anything recent, but probably the biggest for me was, "Oh Shit! NASA's lost another shuttle!". This was compounded by the fact that I was surfing cnn.com for my usual morning news and instead of a massive headline there was just this little bullet point type story header saying "NASA shuttle overdue". The people at CNN.com had obviously not realized the ramifications yet of why it might be "overdue". Ten minutes later - the story was everywhere.
