An interesting video.

I don't know if these things count for anything but I found it fascinating, in that someone collected and arranged every utterance of the phrase "some kind of something" during every Star Trek series.

Let the video begin.

I assumed this was some kind of writer's room gag, like using the number 47 everywhere, because there's simply dozens of different writers that inserted this phrase all the time on TNG and Voyager.

I noticed #112 had Torres saying: "Some kind of randomly fluctuating modulation"

LOL -- what other kinds of RANDOM modulations could there be? It's random!

What prevented them from simply saying "it's a" instead of "it's some kind of" over and over again?

To be fair, "some kind" is far better and often more accurate than saying "it's definitely this or certainly that" based upon what little knowledge they have at the moment. But I would have hoped they could find other ways to say it too. I didn't watch it all, but skipped around to see, and it's pretty much that all the way through, except the note at the end by the guy who put in the labor to make it.

Unfortunately, it's most annoying when you get it all at once like that. But one can do that with other things, too.

That's hilarious how they threw Tuvok in the middle. I just knew how the video was going to end, and I ended up being right.

We should have some kind of brainstorm and come with alternative phrases.

Right after watching that video, I happened to look at Elaan of Troyius where Scotty caught the guard with "some sort of transmitter" and McCoy speaks of "a sort of biochemical substance." Has anyone done a search on all the Trek series to know Voyager is so much more guilty of this than any other?
Some kind
Some sort
Some form
Some type

were there others?

What else could be used?

Some variety?
Some class?
Some category?
Some breed?
