An away team come to a large ravine. Do they re-beam or use equipment to get across?

Based on what we usually see on screen, I'd have to say "beam up" but I'm in the camp that away teams should carry gear that would allow them to navigate such anticipateable obstacles like that.

See the gear worn with the "excursion uniform" worn during the mining expedition in Blood Fever.

“Away team to Enterprise. You wanna beam us down on the right side of this huge ravine? I mean, what kind of shit show are you guys running up there? Does anyone even look at the scans?”

How do you decide which is the right side?

As compared to , y'know, the left?

Chief O'Brien: "Enterprise to away team, turn around and start walking. The planet is a sphere, sooner or later you'll get to the other side of the ravine."

They beam back up.. few days latter..
" Commander.. that transporter operator.. reassign him to security.. yep a red shirt.. make sure he gets assigned to the next away team too.."

Fire the transporter operator for setting me down on the wrong side of the ravine.
And the scriptwriter for having the transporter operator do something so potentially budget-unfriendly in the first place. In TOS or TNG-era Trek, they would have been beamed to right side in the first place.
