An Ambassador Class Starship?

Does the Ambassador class starship have a phaser strip on the bottom of the engineering hull just behind the main deflecter dish, like the E-D?

JDW

That is, the strip wasn't built into the model, despite original intentions, and wasn't refitted into the model when it received a facelift on some other details.

But we only saw that the non-facelifted variant (the E-C) lacked the ventral strip. The facelifted version (the Zhukov) was never shown from an angle that would reveal the lack of a ventral phaser. So perhaps we might want to argue that the originally intended strip was finally fitted onto the class during that refit, or implemented on the second batch, or whatever.

Looking around, some diagrams of both versions of the Ambassador show the strip there too, but what's on screen is the final word, so...

...But the point is that the models aren't "real". Only what we see of them on screen is.

And we don't see a lack of a ventral strip on the Zhukov. ;) (Any more than we see the existence of a ventral mounting point for the motion control arm on the Enterprise-A!)

I'm with Timo on this one. For all we know, the Zhukov has four phaser strips, two of the Defiant's prototype phaser cannons, and a fuzzy dice hanging off the bottom.

The ERTL model also embelishes the design with two forward torpedo tubes where they OUGHT to be. The actual model has NO tubes whatsoever.

Without the ventral phaser strip how well defeneded are the Ambassador Class starships?

JDW

Why would it need phaser strips? Maybe it uses the same kind of phaser banks like the previous model starships used.

No such things on the model, though we know from multiple examples that phasers can be mounted just about anywhere on a starship's hull without actual emission points. This is in turn due to poor research on the part of the VFX guys, but still...
