AMT USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-B)

Oh, yeah. I don't think we have anything like that around here... and it'd probably cost a fortune. It's already gonna' be around $100 when all's said and done. But the gold spray I have is extremely shiny and nice looking, so I think it'll do. Thanks for the tips though.

Hey- welcome aboard. Not to bad- I'm not too keen on the blue rim job. Heh. By theway- is that the wing of an arc fighter I see in the pic?

Thanks! Yes, I know the blue rim is terrible. I'll hopefully be able to get one of those paint markers and fix it up.

And yes, that's a lego ARC 170 there. I have a bunch of lego Star Wars ships.

Caught this forum while I was Googling about. I am also working on a ship wall a-la enterprise D for someones birthday. I'm using a 1/2500 scale, and am including practically every screen used federation ship class, although I've taken a few liberties with some of scaling. I'm cutting my models in half, which is surprisingly easy with a hack saw, and gives me the option to make another one at a later date if I so choose. I would be interested in hearing more about your plans, and willing to share what I've learned so far.

Cheers
John

Interesting to know others have had this idea. I've never seen pictures of any. I plan on only doing the Enterprises (with the exception of the NX-01, as there's no cheap 1:2500 version). Maybe if one is released I'll add it, but wouldn't it be insanely expensive to buy all those ships? Those lesser-known companies charge you your life for those. :P

My original plan was much like yours, containing only enterprises and whole models. I wanted mine to scale (unlike the enterprise E). I changed my mind both after realizing that a glass display case was expensive as the dickens and mounting whole models on the wall would be tricky, and maybe not look so good. I started adding a few ships I liked and soon I had ordered $150 worth of models off of Ebay.

You have to consider that on the Ent-D the models were closer to a 1/1000 scale, and a 1/2500 scale version would be maybe about 18" by 18". I believe AMT will soon be re-releasing a 1/1400 Ent-C. Combined with the 1/1400 D, and E. And the 1/1000 B,A,Original, and NX. would make a pretty large wall, but of course not be quite to scale.

As for a 1/2500 wall, F-toys has several models in the 1/2500 scale, including the Defiant an the NX-O1. I've only been able to find these on Ebay, and the shipping is a bit high unless you order them in bulk. Furuta has a few ships near to scale +/- %10 which are fairly cheap such as the Grissom, Prometheus, and Voyager. I don't consider it a big deal because on the show the mess around with the scales so much anyhow. I'm converting several ships such as the Reliant, New Orleans Class, Stargazer, Nebula, Centaur, Equinox, Soyuz, and Cheyenne Class from assorted enterprises, (as the show's model makers did) but I am a pretty decent sculptor. If your feeling bold there is also an old DS9 model that is listed as 1/2500, but AMT exagerates scales more than I do, as a bonus it comes with a runabout about the size of a bee. My original plan was to convert a Polar lights 1/1000 NX class into an Akira, but once I was holding it in my hand and remembered how much modelling putty cost I changed my mind and forked out for a pricey resin one.

As for gold plating, I've looked into it. And unless you wanna fork out serious dough I wouldnt go down that road.

Wow. I might do that one day if I have the money, but I can't even buy many conventional kits, let alone those obscure ones on the fan sites. Also, unfortunately Round 2 has cancelled their 1/2500 Abrams Enterprise model (which I was planning to use), so this gold wall will have to be just the TOS-E Enterprises. I would really love an Akira and Centaur model for myself, though I guess the latter could be made with the Excelsior and Reliant kits.

And I figured the gold plating would be expensive. It's alright though; I've got some great metallic spray-paint.

Also, just as a note, I'm currently working on a 1/1000 AMT Excelsior that I got for free from a newspaper ad. Unfortunately it's built badly, but my paint job is making it look much better. It puts this model to complete shame. Thusly, I shall have to buy R2's re-release of this one and re-do it to my new standards.
