Amok Time and the gay thing

I hear Plum not only accepts homosexuality as natural but he also sees allegory in most Trek shows! What a freak eh?

Look, Briguy has demonstrated his homophobia in various other threads. We know why he posted in this thread just as he does in every other "gay" thread. He is trolling. He can whine about his precious opinion being attacked all he wants, but if one is going to put it out there one can't be such a pussy as to get insulted when someone replies.

If he doesn't like the topic, doesn't HAVE to post in the thread. Other people would like to discuss things without having to put up with homophobia. That's an actual "right" btw.

Jesus, here i am defending gay rights. Who knew?

Warning for trolling. What part of stop with the personal stuff don't people get? And you posted it RIGHT after I said to stop.

Anyone else want warnings? By all means, step up to the plate.

As best as I can remember, TOS didn't delve into homosexuality at all. It took on a lot of subjects considered "touchy" for its day, in its scifi setting, as is what Gene set out to do, but not this one.

TNG did, with the Trill - going from a male host that Crusher got the hots for into a female host - and the ep with the androgynous species where Riker got involved with one who had female urges.

And I remember a girl-girl kiss with Dax from DS9, but can't recall the story.

Theodore Sturgeon, the author, is well known for his sexually ambiguous stories well before Star Trek.

Insisting it can't be so because you think Amok Time was literally a demonstration of how Vulcans reproduce is silly. It's a TV show, it's not real.

Next.

Since Spock's the ultimate outsider, its cool that the gay community can take some "ownership" of him. I have no idea if it was intentional or not with Amok Time, but its a valid interpretation.
Well, if you say so. But then it just may be interpreted that way because of today's perspective. I and countless others have never gotten a whiff of gay agenda on this issue.

Some are seeing what they want to see, and ridiculing those who don't.

Moving on...

For what it's worth, I don't see anything mentioning "sexually ambiguous" works by Sturgeon in his Wiki profile. If it was such a big part of who he was and what he wrote, you'd think it would be mentioned there.

And yes, I know it's a TV show.

There is nothing homosexual or addressing homosexuality in Amok Time. And I doubt not in any of TOS, which is what my last post was actually about.

What is Amok Time about? Let's see... how a perfectly logical species handles marriage, mating, and reproduction; revealing details of the Vulcan society and history; exploring and building on the relationship (non-sexual, for those obsessed with the subject) between Kirk and Spock.

And, for me, this episode carries one of those bits of wisdom said by Spock I find most true. To paraphrase: That having a thing is not so pleasing as wanting a thing. It is not logical, but it is often true. And I agree.

"Next."

^^^
Even Wiki mentions at least one novel of his from 1960 that had as a major feature of the plot sexually ambitious characters. Reread. And hey, I assure you there is more out there about Theodore Sturgeon. I encourage you to read more.

Gay agenda? What's that? Is that where the gays take over the US (Jerry Falwell explained it to me once). I even got the secret plans once...

The Gay Agenda - Plan A. (written on pink paper)
8am - Nuke Washington!
9am - Occupy every GAP store in the nation!
10am - Brunch!
11am - Attack military targets with offers of girls and booze.
12am - Lunch with girls and booze.

... and so on. :D

Dude, I'm a gay man. And I can tell you we would NEVER have brunch before noon.

Let alone shop at the Gap...so 90s... "as if..."

Ted Sturgeon wrote "Shore Leave" too. I think the scene where Kirk thought that Spock was giving him a massage may have been a gay thing.
