Both sides did terrible things during the war, war has a habit of bringing that out. Just look at the absolutely terrible conditions of the prisoner of war camps on both sides. It has been made clear that that slavery is the root of the southern cause, even down to the tariff issue (that was resolved before the war). It was the only "states' right" cited. The "invasion argument" is weak. By that reasoning, Chamberlain invaded New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New York..... Those states just up and decided that it was an invasion.
Even history experts at Ole Miss and LSU criticize the southern cause, and they know far more than any of us do.
They haven't showed proof for their assertions, it goes both ways...
