Americans get the Christmas Special on Christmas Day!!!!

Hell yes! BBCA kicks ass. I'm so glad they have Doctor Who now.

And we just recently (finally) got BBCA in HD in my area, too. Merry Christmas to me! :D

Huh, Down Under it'll probably arrive at some stupid time, like all the US Xmas eps. Huh. I'll rely on "other sources".

Moving on. "A Christmas Carol'. Really? Really? A little originality would be nice.

For the first time the ABC will fast-track the annual Doctor Who Christmas Special. It will air on Boxing Day in Australia, just hours after it screens in the UK.
Fans have long asked for Who to be fast-tracked by ABC to help minimise internet spoilers. The 2009 special aired in January, a month after its UK premiere.
Doctor Who is one of several highlights ABC has planned for the summer.

DOCTOR WHO CHRISTMAS SPECIAL 2010
Australian Premiere
Sunday 26 December, 7.30pm ABC1
Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor returns with his companion Amy Pond in a clever twist on themuch loved A Christmas Carol, with special guest stars Sir Michael Gambon and singing sensation Katherine Jenkins joining Amy and the Doctor for an unforgettable present.
the ABC Christmas TV listins are out real early.

This could be good news for Canadian viewers as well.
SPACE says they'll be showing the special during their "12 Days of SPACEmas", but whether that means it'll be on Xmas Day remains to be seen.

They're doing another 12 Days of Spacemas? Last year I only bothered with the Doctor Who day, and even that I only watched The End of Time.

Oh well, I'll have plenty of DVDs that I guess I won't care about regular programming being pulled for nearly two weeks.

^ Indeed it is good news. I was very happy when I saw that news on twitter weeks ago.
with scheulding like that, there really is no excuse for anyone to "pirate" the show, I wonder how far apart the US & Oz airings actually will be.

SPACE will be showing a preview of the Christmas special tonight on InnerSPACE, so they may reveal the airfare too.

It's about time, now if we can get the series to air at the same time as in England life would be almost perfect.
what about the ad breaks?

That's the only downside...especially if they break up emotional beats like they did with The End of Time Part II...

I think the finale of the last series was aired commercial free when it first premiered on BBC America. They certainly should consider either going commercial free or limited commercial interruptions to minimize editing.

If we're getting it at 7:30 on Boxing Day, then that's about 11-12 hours after you see it in Britain. Fine by me. Not sure how it relates to the US broadcast, but must be close to same.

Limited commercial interruptions, sponsored by Microsoft. :)

Repeat airings of "The Big Bang" (and also, "The Eleventh Hour") have been gutted like a fish.

Yeah, but you can at least argue you take repeat viewings at your own risk. If the original is full length, that's at least a start.
