American X factor

Yes, I am a fan of American Idol. Yep, I admit it. Though most of the winners haven't amounted to much, a few have.

And I my wife and I are really excited about the X Factor, which is a whole year and a half from debuting. I saw Simon recently and he says that all kinds of musical acts can compete. Meaning groups, bands, solo artist, duets..what ever..and there is no age limit either.

I know that x factor seems to get thumbs down on this site as much as American Idol does, but if you do watch x factor, do they put the singers in one group..the bands in another...or do they jumble them up?

Assuming they follow the UK style, there will be 3 groups: one for younger artists (IIRC 25 and under), one for older artists, and one for groups - each of which will be looked after by one of the hosts.

Simon would probably one of the three judges and so would have his own group to deal with (as the other two would have their groups)

In the end it's exactly the same spiel as American Idol - the only difference being that this time the participants are split into the three groups and each of the judges looks after one of the groups.

There are four judges in the UK X Factor, and each one takes a group...

1. Boys under 25
2. Girls under 25
3. Over 25s
4. Groups

If they keep the same format, the judges are far more hands on in X-Factor, mentoring their charges through the whole process, choosing their songs for them and so on.

I actually like Simon's music tastes...so I think his group would be cool to watch..

My family, and I, love American Idol, and without Simon and his 'honest' advice, the show would suck even more than it does sometimes.

It's most likely going to replace American Idol in a few years if AI's ratings keep slipping like they have been.

ahhh..thanks for the link.

I like this concept because I think there are some great singers over 28 that AI wont touch. "Too old". But i think as baby-boomers age, they will watch a show like this if it means more beatles music, and other acts from the 60s-70s-80s

well she is known my that now so its a bit stupid to change it.
we were fortunate for the UK that it replaced pop idol (UK version).

i gotta say was a good fairer concept that just single performers, but i stillw atch it for the beginning auditions, lol

Well, I doubt they would use a whole cast of British Judges. If you're a Brit and you know american stars, and which ones would likely commit to a such a show, who do you think some of them might be?

Barry Manilow? I actually thought the week Manilow was on, in season three I think, he did a great job, as did Harry Connick recently, when he worked with each contestant and helped them arrange their music. I really don't care for mentors like Jamie Foxx of Shiania Twain who, I think, don't really do much. Foxx was good last year, but his year, he just repeated the same stuff he did last year.

So...if you know american music stars who might mentor on X FACT, who do you think they would be and do they do it for the entire season?
