American Horror Story Hotel - Discussion

I’m watching for Matt Bomer as well Haven’t seen any previous seasons of this show, except of the one episode last year where he guest starred in (which didn’t make me want to seek out the rest).
But after the pilot this season, I also was really intrigued about how all the stories will come together, which is good, as it would get pretty boring just waiting for the Donovan scenes I guess. It is a great ensemble cast. Plus I love the old fashioned hotel, the whole scenery and costumes.

And I guess Matt wanted something as far away from Neal Caffrey as possible. Which makes sense.

Are you still watching each week?

No. I only watched the pilot. It was somewhat interesting but the storylines seemed kind of all over the place. The Countess was an intriguing character though. I just couldn't get into it. From what I hear, he wasn't used all that much, and even if I like a particular actor, I'm not one to watch something just because they are in it. I have to like the movie or show as well.

So did Donovan live or meet his end?

when this season began i didn't think i would like it...but i ended up really enjoying it. i wonder what the theme for next season will be?

Odds are that next season will take place in the past. So far every season has alternated between the present and the past. It's the past's turn next season.

Eventually they'll have to do a future-space show. They're running out of believable genres/settings to do things with.

No. I only watched the pilot. It was somewhat interesting but the storylines seemed kind of all over the place.

It was just introducing all the characters. We learnt more about the stories in the upcoming episodes. Sometimes this character would get an episode, sometimes that one.

The Countess was an intriguing character though. I just couldn't get into it. From what I hear, he wasn't used all that much, and even if I like a particular actor, I'm not one to watch something just because they are in it. I have to like the movie or show as well.

I totally get that. I had not expected to like it but was intrigued, and the actors kept me watching. The more I learnt about their past, the more I liked them.

It's true that Matt's role could have been bigger but then it's an ensemble show. If he wanted to go as far as possible from Neal Caffrey, he surely achieved that. I do wish he had played the policeman though, that was an interesting character with several layers.

So did Donovan live or meet his end?

I'm afraid he didn't make it. This really seems to be a theme in Matt's roles! He got somewhat of a happy ending though, as he managed - actually was determined - to die outside the hotel. If you died inside, then your ghost was roaming the halls forever, and he had lived long enough as a vampire to know he did not want to live there for all eternity. After he died, a medium got contact and apparently he was in a happy place that reminded him of Saturday mornings with pancakes.

How about a university-based thriller, a la Scream Queens? Without any of the goofiness. Either that or a summer camp slasher flick
