AMC's Walking Dead Spin-Off Premise Revealed?

IZombie isn't really that similar of a story to the other zombie shows. though.

My guess is this show may air between seasons of Walking Dead so as not to steal demographics from it.

I also kind of liked the idea that the only view we DID get of this world was through Rick and the others in his group. And that we had no clue what was going on anywhere else, and were just as hungry as they were for any small piece of news we could get.

Agreed. I for one don't give a crap about what the President is doing in his secret underground bunker. Having those kind of scenes would bring down this entire show.

I forgot about that one, but it's different enough I don't know if I'd really count it. It's going to be more of a fantasy cop show, than a post-zombiepocalypse kind of thing.
I was thinking it could actually be more interesting to see the creators of Walking Dead do a different kind of post-apocalyptic story, rather than a direct TWD spin-off. Maybe a Revolution style, low tech kind of thing, or something along the lines of Mad Max.

Could they not think of another female name other than Andrea?

I wonder if that's intentional? Like a subtle reboot of the character, to give her a chance to take on some of the personality traits and story beats from the later Andrea of the comics that is still alive. Not saying she's literally the same as TWD the series' Andrea, but a way for them to go "Yeah, we kind of screwed up her character before, so we're giving it another shot with a new but similar character."

Yeah, that's a lot of teenagers. These zombies feed on aaaaangst and braaaaains.

I can see an island nation unaffected (largely.) My dream would be to see David Attenborough do a fictional documentary of zombies, where you see our heros in the background. You never hear them speak--but only see them through the eyes of the naturalists.
... A zombie David Attenborough?

...

... What's this? A free first-class bus ticket to hell? How kind!

AMC is certainly doing a good job at keep the overarching premise of this second series a secret. In fact a better job than JJ has done in keeping the premise of Wars VII a secret. What gives? Aren't there any narks on the set of TWD II?

Meh. None of those characters sound overly interesting, but writing and performance can still make a good character even if the basic description doesn't sound very exciting.

To be fair, on paper the cast of Telltale's game doesn't seem all that interesting. It's all in the writing and the performances.

So Z Nation didn't end up being much of a ratings threat to TWD after all with 1.58-1.6 million viewers average in the first three episodes.

TWD averaged 13 million viewers an episode last season, and a massive 6.0-8.0 demo ratings. TWD beats EVERYTHIING in the demo ratings including massive hits like Big Bag Theory, Modern Family, Survivor, Monday Night Football, and even the Olympics this year.

Looks like The Walking Dead spinoff might end up being a bigger threat to the main TWD show. It could leech viewers from the main show. Too much of a good thing, but AMC is greedy and they want another hit show now that Breaking Bad is done and Mad Men finishes next year. :sigh:

IIRC DS9 did the same to Next Gen when they were on at the same time? There are only so many hours in the week that people want to watch the same genre.

Wouldn't be surprised to see the spinoff air right after the original finishes Season 5 if they start filming here pretty soon. And that casting call is just to get people through the door and audition for roles. I highly doubt those are actual characters.

General Audience, yea, probably.

But for me, that was a high point in television, DS9, B5 and TNG all on every week. (Plus Stargate Franchise and Farscape through parts of those runs, I believe)

SciFi/Fantasy makes up almost all of my viewing time :alienblush:

I don't know, it is kind of realistic. It does get irritating that TV shows never have another character share a name with, especially multiple shows with a shared universe. Hell, it's surprisingly rare to see a first name get used in any Star Trek series after a main character gets it for a name. It happens sure, but rarely. There aren't any other prominent characters in any of the shows named James aside from Kirk.

Compare this to real life where you can meet dozens of people with the same name. There's nothing wrong with two Andreas in the TWD verse, especially since the two characters will never meet anyway.

Honestly, Abrams has a crappy way of trying to keep a secret. He'll essentially light up a neon sign and get on a blow horn and yell "something secret going on here, do not come and check it out."

They know better. They get fed to the walkers if they're caught.
