AMC's Preacher's lifespan

The comics ran for quite a while, and if they continue to add as much material as they did for Season 1, then I could easily see the show go on for that long.

As long as it doesn't go on as long as The Walking Dead, it's TV show or comic, then that'll be good.

So far the show has barely touched the written material, so they still have miles of story ahead of them to play with. It will be more down to WHICH bits of the original material they decide to play with given to translate certain elements to the screen would (a) be very very expensive and (b) completely enrage a decent proportion of the US populous who can not take religious criticism.

Let's see if it can make it through S2 before we start asking for 5 seasons. The ratings aren't so impressive right now.

There were nine collected trades of the comic. The first season has been a bizarre mash-up of three of those trades (Gone to Texas, Ancient History, and Salvation) without really advancing the story forward.

If they're remotely faithful to the comic, I'd imagine it'd be like this...
Season Two: Till the End of the World. Season Three: Proud Americans. Season Four: Dixie Fried.
Season Five: War in the Sun. Season Six: All Hell's-a Coming. Season Seven: Alamo.

Though I would think they would burn through the story faster than that.
