The original-band minus one, will all be making guest appearances on Universe this fall, with the announcement that Tapping will appear on the newest spinoff.
"SGU," toplined by Robert Carlyle, Lou Diamond Phillips and Ming-Na, follows a group of survivors aboard an ancient ship who are unable to return to Earth.

Four veterans of the "Stagate" franchise, Richard Dean Anderson, Amanda Tapping, Michael Shanks and Gary Jones, will reprise their roles in guest stints.

Can Teal'c and Mitchell be far behind? Heck, let's throw in Vala too. And an alternate universe Dr Frazier...Have McKay beam in from Atlantis while you're at it.... ;)

Well the folks stuck on the Destiny may find someway to contact the SGC on Earth which could explain them appearing on the show.

Just because they're physically able to be on the show doesn't mean it's necessary or a good thing.

:brickwall::brickwall:

And there I was thinking we'd finally got a Stargate show without Amanda Tapping.
I loved the character originally, and for 8 long years was a fan of her and the actress. But her story is told, it's finished, and it's several years past its sell by date. Let. it. drop.

I would agree if she was coming aboard as a regular but I don't see anything wrong with guest spots or cameo's. The character they really need to bring back as a regular is Rodney McHay.

The Carter character is a walking plot device (or plot resolver) with zero personality - I'm not happy about this at all.

Let's see if Universe can destroy her character even more than the last few seasons of SG-1 (season 7 on), and Atlantis!

There comes a time where enough is enough!

ENOUGH!

Stop just making new shows to have old characters on them. There were three episodes of TNG that had TOS characters on it (I'm counting the two parter as one long episode). Less really is more.

Ech. No dragging in old characters, it's ridiculous and reeks of desperation.

I'd like to see Browder, Black, Flanigan and Judge again, but on anything but Stargate. There are really no current Stargate characters who are worth dragging back into anything, cept maybe Zelenka.

Encounter at Farpoint - McCoy
Sarek - Sarek
Unification 1&2 - Spock, Sarek
Relics - Scotty

*adding up* Hmmm ... I know something's not matching there. Let's see, Encounter is one. Sarek is two. Unification is three. Relics is ... also three? Nope, that doesn't match.

Splitting hairs much? I'm guessing bigdaddy was referring to appearances of Star Trek regulars, of which there is only three if you count both parts of Unification as one (and Spock is barely on screen during the first part, anyway). But even if he wasn't, it's a pretty small mistake

Of course, Deep Space Nine brought all kinds of Next Generation characters over, principally Worf for four seasons. Next Generation didn't do as many crossovers because it was set so far in the future compared to its progenitor.

Mostly, I'm disappointed in all these characters being brought onboard Universe because I have expectations that this series will break the mold of the previous fifteen seasons of the franchise. It'll be harder to do that (though not impossible, as was the case of Deep Space Nine) if they're spending so much time holding onto the past.

I seriously don't know why people are getting upset about this stuff. These characters aren't coming on for regular roles. They're just guest spots. Stargate Command is only so big; it would be weird if the leaders of the place were suddenly MIA.

Granted, one does wonder how they're getting on the show, since it would seem that doing so would force them to abandon the premise rather early.

its that they were supposed to be cut off in a distant part of the universe, but now we've lerned they will hve regular contact with earth, and not just that, contact with people from sg1 too

they said this series would be different, but so far it seems like it isn't any different than Atlantis

remember, Atlantis was supposed to be cut off from Earth too, in a distant part of the universe, and they eventually had regular contact with Earth

same thing here

With the announcement of having a few guest stars has perked my interest, especially with having Jack back in some way. I'm curious on how they will be writing the guest stars into the show, and so that will get me to watch it. Aren't you all just a little bit curious?

I don't mind having a few SG-1 characters in the premire to kick things off like they did with Atlantis, but I wish they would let the show stand on it's own. Whats the over/under on when Lorne is going to show up?

It's because they're going to invent inane excuses why these people are going to be on the show. Replicators, holosuites, evil universe duplicates - there's just no way to do this stuff that's going to be worthwhile.

The last person I want to see is RDA. His boredom and lack of interest in the role was obvious in the last few seasons he was on SG-1. Carter and Jackson bore me to death.

Instead of most of the Universe cast being unknown's I would have had

Lorne
Zelenka
Keller

plus Alien guide

as the new team

I don't see the need for a guide, the ship won't staying in one area long enough to need one.

Exactly, wow 4 times in 176ish episodes! Wow! So much more than 3! Plus I meant regulars, how often was Sarek in TOS? Not that often!

If they want to have the leader of SGC on Universe, that's fine, take a secondary character from a past show and make him a major character, fine, but enough with all these guest spots. Universe will have more quests from past shows within it's first half season, which is only 20 episodes, than TNG had in seven 26 episode seasons!
