Am I the Only One Who Thought This?

So when Kirk is dropped on Delta Vega, am I the only one who thought Big Red bore more than a slight resemblance to a vagina? I mean, if vaginas had teeth and legs, that is.

I sort of wanted to believe it was a subtle joke on the parts of the moviemakers, as though TOS Kirk's karma had manifested itself and somehow honed in on Nu!Kirk. However, given that in the behind the scenes bits on the blu ray the designers repeatedly mentioned that their goal was to make the scariest and most disgusting monster possible, I'm sure joking was the farthest thing from their minds.

Although, if one does want to look at it as Kirk's karma, does that mean K/S shippers can take heart, since Spock was the one who saved Kirk from it?

I do find myself wondering, though, whether some inspiration might also have come from another, Gerald Scarfe-drawn monstrosity seen in the trial sequence of Pink Floyd's The Wall.

While "vagina" never entered my head when I saw this creature, it did bug me to see it walking on legs that come to a point. In snow. Reminded me of the creature that Obi-Wan fought in the Geonosis arena in AOTC. The legs anyway.

I was more bothered by the fact that this creature, having attacked something much larger than Kirk, was hell-bent on getting him instead. Surely a predator having captured a prey item would eat that rather than expend more energy going after something much smaller? I'm sure we can theorise the reasons why Kirk is a tastier snack, but still that bugged me.

I guess the red thing might have killed the rhino-bear because it was disturbing its sleep with all the running, but normally didn't eat those things - though being that large I cannot imagine it ordinarily waited around for space travellers instead...

Maybe it too the chance to grab an extra meal so it was 'stocked up' on energy for longer. It's not like the other creature it killed wasn't going to keep for long
