Am I the Only One Who Desperately Craves a Captain Shaw Series?

A lot can come down to actor. The one playing Rios just made me shrug. The one playing Shaw does it with an almost trollish glee sometimes that just makes me smile for some reason.

I mean, I guess. He could play it a little tighter.

Which is why the Roddenberry/Berman rules need to be taken more as guidelines than hard and fast mandates.

Maybe. I sometimes am interested in the mix of ideas presented. One of the big ones that I think is good for the mix is that humans don't mourn in the future. While I don't think all humans wouldn't I do think it has interesting place, especially as it runs in a similar mindset to people who go "Officers should not experience emotions" arguments I see.

In the shape he was in at that moment, it would have been highly irresponsible to NOT give command to someone else.

I just suffered a wound due to an explosion by being fired upon by an enemy ship. I obviously should stay in command...

He did, but being wounded is not a reason to transfer command. Give someone else the conn for a while, yes. Actually transfer the command codes and abrogate your command, hell no. In any sensible milieu his crew would never trust him again, and his reporting senior would (or should) cashier him.

Maybe I'm being too harsh, but I always ask What would Jim Kirk Do? And against that yardstick, Shaw falls far short in every respect.

Um, no. I have it on good authority from Starfleet Command that Shaw will be brought up on charges by the convening authority. I have personally requested he be executed for his crimes against Starfleet and the Federation. It will air on all channels and all stations.

Did Garret have a senior level experienced officer of equal rank or higher to transfer command to?

If not, I fail to see how the situations are comparable.

Let's face it, the Titan's crew comes off extremely green and I don't think any of them would be up to the challenge of taking command while fighting/running from the Shrike. If Seven was on the bridge, sure Shaw might've had her take command with no need to transfer anything over. But she wasn't. The ship's former captain with plenty of battle experience was though. Shaw's a dick, but putting Riker in charge was a good call to ensure they got out of that situation alive.

Indeed. It showed tactical awareness as well as personal awareness.

I do not believe his authority was undermined in the slightest nor do I think the convening authority would court martial Shaw for his decisions at any level.

Yeah, considering Shaw nearly died while he was on the operating table, it's probably best he did transfer command over to Riker and head to sickbay.

Or is the Titan a Klingon ship where a true leader dies a preventable death and stays in command because to do otherwise is the act of an honorless petaq?

The actor does a fine job but no, I don't think I would want a Shaw series. I mean I can absolutely see the value in one, to be clear. There are two options with a Shaw series: do a story with an asshole captain who has unresolved trauma issues and who behaves in ways that don't necessarily comport with Star Trek fans' traditional ideas of how Starfleet should be; or clean him up and make him a cuddly version of the Shaw we've seen so far, basically a Captain McCoy. The first option would be a great premise. The second could be a lot of fun too, but not with Shaw. And my fear is that we'd get the second option. The reason I feel that way is that Star Trek had an opportunity to give us the first option already once before. Instead, they took a hard swerve at midseason and turned the captain into a moustache-twirling bad guy from the Eeeeevil Universe.

I like Shaw. He was right about most everything. Yeah he can be abrasive but that's part of the charm of the character. I would love to see a series with Shaw as Captain. Time will tell

I too would enjoy a Shaw series. Easily one over a Seven series. Seven has become boring. I think the sudden insertion of Raffi and Seven as an item hurt her character as it was sudden and forced in the previous season. Shaw has already been given far more storyline than Seven. That tells me a lot.
