Alternate romantic partners for Julian Bashir (not Jadzia, not Ezri and not Garak)

Even if Bashir crossed the line there (fine, he did - a little, and it kicked off the plot, so there is a storyline reason), he is still much better than some other people, like Quark.

And he changed later. I pair him with Jadzia DESPITE these things, not because of them.

But Bashir wasn't just a horny young man. He was a horny young man who refused to read social cues that Dax wasn't interested. Bashir's supposed autism does not seem to manifest itself anywhere BUT when Dax is politely declining his interest.
Try to remember, this was the 1990's. We can't judge Bashir by 2020's standards.

What Bashir was doing was wrong even by "1990s standards". It's pretty basic "do not harass your coworker" stuff.

I like Bashir, the character a lot. I love Alexander Siddig's performance. The character grows a lot! But his actions in the cold open of "Dax" are over the line. The show eventually establishes that both he and Dax are past that phase of his behavior and are cool with each other, and we can let it stand at that without trying to defend it.

Persuing someone who said "no" was unacceptable in the 1990s, is still unacceptable in the 2020s, and I certainly hope it will still be unacceptable in the 2300s.

Bashir is an intelligent man with some sense of humor and good looks. It should not have been such an impossible project for him to find someone who wants to go out with him.

And Dax understood that. I have no doubt, she could have shut him down in a heartbeat, had she seen the need.

I wonder whether Bashir might have behaved the same way he did in "Dax" if it had been Melora or Sarina (the two alternatives that most readily come to mind). Granted they were a bit later, but not that much.

I could see Melora in particular giving Bashir the business for it. Doing that to Sarina before her procedure would have been unambiguously appalling.

I don't really see where Bashir "harassed" Dax (by all means, point out a specific instance that's worse than the one in "Dax"), but I do think his behavior was inappropriate and I think if Dax knew what he did then he could have found himself on the receiving end of a Sisko rant and disciplinary action if she hadn't been as tolerant as she was.

I can't and won't speak for all autistic people, but as someone who's likely mildly autistic himself (though also much older than Bashir was at the time, though I think even when I was his age I would have known this), I'm well aware that when someone says, "That's not necessary," they're politely telling me to please not do whatever it is I'm contemplating. I haven't watched the episode in a long time either, but I'm pretty sure Bashir's own handling of it indicates that he knows how he's supposed to interpret the exchange as well, and is choosing not to do so.

I don't think there's enough to say that Bashir is autistic anyway.
Indeed. I would more say that because of his intelligence, knowledge, athleticism, and attractiveness, he's just used to getting the ladies. Jadzia's lack of interest is unfamiliar territory for him.

Regarding the topic question... my answer is no one. It's kind of an overused trope of two leads getting together. (Or multiple pairs of leads.)

A good candidate would have been Dr. Elizabeth Lense from "EXPLORERS", though.

Side note: someone mentioned that Kira and Bashir didn't have a lot of scenes together. Some examples...

"THE PASSENGER" - the entire beginning was the two of them on the runabout and then rescuing Kajada.

"CROSSOVER" - a lot of scenes in the episode.

"THE JEM'HADAR" - they were on one the runabouts together.

"CIVIL DEFENSE" - in Ops the whole time, along with Dax. And later Garak.

"DEFIANT" - just before Tom Riker greets Kira, they has a whole scene where she lost her patience and he ordered her off duty and relax.

"LIFE SUPPORT" - multiple scenes.

"IMPROBABLE CAUSE" - right after Bashir and have Garak have lunch, they are talking about what an alien breathes.

"RETURN TO GRACE" - the beginning when she is getting her shots.

"THE QUICKENING" - along with Dax, in the runabout.

"APOCALYPSE RISING" - in Sisko's office, and her jokingly saying the pregnancy was 'his fault'. (Clearly, the writers were having fun there.)

"THE SHIP" - Sisko's office, the legal trouble with Quark. Odo was there, too.

"TIES OF BLOOD AND WATER" - multiple scenes relating to Ghemor, including her talking to him about watching Ghemor's last minutes.

And many more.

I agree they didn't have many episodes together, but they definitely had their fair share of scenes together.

I agree, Dr. Lense might have been a good match. Though we didn't see them together very long.

Kira, though, I don't think has been really interested in dating anyone who wasn't a Bajoran. I'm not counting the 5 minutes of Kira and Miles O'Brien going "wouldn't it be nice... in another life".

Odo would like a word.
;)

He couldn't do humanoid faces. His skill at being a Changeling wasn't good enough for faces throughout the show.
One of the aspects of DS9 that really made no sense whatsoever, given that Odo could perfectly replicate everything else.

Actually, I think it does make sense. I think his inability to mimic humanoid faces is an extension of his personality.

The Founders were very much about misdirection, subterfuge, and lying to get their plans in motion. In other words, not very honest people.

Odo is very much an honest person. And because of this, subconsciously, he is unable to mimic faces. (With the sole exception of the Female Changeling in "TACKING INTO THE WIND", but that was his final shifting before he finally collapsed from the disease.)
